I think even race 2 was magnificent, but yeah, race 3 was quite possibly the best door-to-door racing I have seen and will see this year.

That guy, Josh Cook has some guts, he placed his car veery very smartly, he balanced perfectly on the edge of fair-but-hard defending. The way he came back on Smith at the exit of the Craner Curves the lap before they collided was simply out of this world.

I don’t understand why Smith chose to run him off the road the next lap though – when he was, finally, all but beaten. Perhaps he feared Cook may do the slide job again at the exit of the Craner Curves. Smith got all worked up and lost his cool seeing the display Cook showed.

That calamity when Smith and Cook returned to the track and managed to avoid everybody though… that was like the wildest scene I can imagine right now.

It was a fabulous battle and a truly memorable race.

Ha, Jason Plato and Matt Neal is on the front row for the first race in Oulton Park. Anyone fancy a coming together into Old Hall or further down the line?

@atticus-2 – Apparently not! Haha, they were most well behaved, unlike a certain Andy Priaulx…

Anyway, mediocre racing today. I think Oulton Park needs to leave the calendar. Might be nice to drive and look at, but it produces really dull racing. If it wasn’t for Tordoff I’m not sure we’d have had any overtaking!

I think it’s just the layout they are using. I understand, accept and agree with the reason why they use the Knickerbrook chicane, but I have no idea why Britten’s is still in place – if I were MSV, I’d use the International layout without the Britten’s chicane. That way we would have even more challenging corners for the drivers (Island – the bend, Shell Oils) AND a longer run down to the biggest braking zone of the circuit at Hislop’s. Quite simply, I don’t want Oulton Park off the calendar, haha.

I only saw race 1, then I had other things to do, so I still need to catch up with race 2 and 3, by the way. Plato managed a masterclass in race 1 and Shedden was exceptionally good in quali, in terms of FLAP for race 2 and good in terms of race 1 pace considering his ballast.

I just finished watching race 2. Tordoff absolutely nailed his moves; he was the only one who had the balls to make them.

Also, I’m quite unimpressed with Áron Smith’s defensive moves – that guy just weaves all over the track, he really isn’t seem to be a clean driver. Showed it off against Cook in Donington for good measure as well.

What I was most taken aback with though was Andy Priaulx taking full responsibility for his last-lap crash with team-mate Rob Collard. I mean there’s always two sides to a story – yes, he was behind, had no real chance of getting ahead there, but Collard did squeeze him onto the grass as well, leaving him no room. It’s like the Raikkonen v. Ricciardo incident in Monaco – yes, Ricciardo was behind, had no real chance of getting ahead there without contact, but Raikkonen did squeeze him towards the barrier as well, leaving him no room. It’s two racing school philosophy completely at odds with each other with one stating that the driver in front always has the right to go wherever he wants to and with the other stating had the driver in front always has to leave enough space for the other car, if the other car manages to get some part alongside with him.

I wonder what’s your take on the matter, @bradley13.

@atticus-2 – I agree, without Tordoff the whole day would have been mega dull.

I don’t think Priaulx did take full responsibility, from what I saw he claimed he was alongside and tried to blame Collard as well as himself! No, admittedly Collard squeezed him, but I think the onus is still on Priaulx not to cause the collision, yet he did. It was hugely clumsy.
