On the pole position debate, this is one of those matters where there is a certain logic to both sides of the debate, but ultimately it is a matter of convention and definition: for the purposes of the record […]
DavidJH commented on the post, Who should Ferrari replace Felipe Massa with? 10 years, 8 months ago
If this season had been more predictable so far I think Ferrari would simply stick with Massa and avoid having to buy out his contract. But with Alonso leading the championship even in supposedly a dog of a car, I […]

DavidJH commented on the post, DRS overtaking falls in first races of 2012 10 years, 9 months ago
There’s a lot to be said on both sides of the DRS debate. I think it’s worth distinguishing between two sorts of criticism. One is that it’s a gimmick, by which most people seem to mean that it is ‘artificial,’ in […]
DavidJH commented on the post, Win-less champions, going to a race and hosting fees 10 years, 9 months ago
It’s because there are more countries wanting to host a race than there are slots in the calendar. Lots of these places are oil or other commodity-rich places that want to either ‘put themselves on the map,’ […]

Kiki Rosberg also holds the distinction of being the only driver to have failed to score a single point in the year before he won the championship. Indeed, Rosberg had only scored a total of 6 points in four […]

@murraytastic of course you’re right, and now I think about it 2010 Australia was indeed pretty special.
DavidJH commented on the post, Rate the race result: 2012 Malaysian Grand Prix 10 years, 10 months ago
Thanks for the link. This give the top ten from 2008-2011. Australia 2012 scored 7.6, which doesn’t trouble the top ten, but Malaysia at 8.452 enters at sixth, as Keith points out.
So, both sumedh and me were […]

That’s a pretty good list. I think Abu Dhabi 2010 might be in a top five at the expense of 2009 Brazil.
Keith: are you going to reveal the answer?
DavidJH commented on the post, 2012 Malaysian Grand Prix result 10 years, 10 months ago
I haven’t gone through all the comments, so this could be a repeat, but I am very encouraged to see eight different manufacturers in the top eight (nine in the top ten). When did this last happen? Clearly, the […]
DavidJH commented on the post, The 2012 rules changes at a glance 10 years, 11 months ago
Also, the wording of the article is a lot less sensible than your gloss. As you put it, Keith, the defending car once moved from the line must leave a car width to cars that have appeared alongside it. But […]
DavidJH commented on the post, The 2012 rules changes at a glance 10 years, 11 months ago
That’s a sensible, common sense point of view. But the point of the rules is not to express common sense, but to codify the tough cases where reasonable doubt might occur. My problem with the rule is precisely […]

Have just watched a video of the 2010 race in Malaysia, I think it was, in which Lewis weaved across the track while coming down the straight in front of Petrov. His team radioed him to warn him about this, and he […]

I happen to be in Buenas Aires in Argentina at the time of the season-opener in Melbourne. Does anyone – perhaps any Argentinian readers – know if the GP will be on television, or if not if there is a sports bar […]

Further thought: does this mean Rubens lives to drive another day? I think he’ll stay at Williams.

BTW 2012 will have all champions of the last 12 years on the grid.

Autosport has a piece about it on their website. Although heavily trailed this still comes as a big surprise to me, though not as big as if he’d returned to Williams. My prediction is that he’ll have a tough season and be bested by Petrov.

Clark actually did this twice, in 63 and 65 and Ascari also scored 100% of possible points in 1952.
DavidJH commented on the post, Massa makes 100 Ferrari starts but no podium 11 years, 2 months ago
Back in the days when not all points counted to the championship and points could be dropped (so that a driver wouldn’t be penalised too much because of unreliability) Jim Clark scored all 54 possible championship […]
