Going to the Chinese Grand Prix at Shanghai 4 years, 4 months ago
Perhaps I can help a little! I was there in 2017.
It’s really easy to get to the track by public transport. I was staying in a hostel outside of the city centre and as I recall it took about half an hour on the metro to reach the track, which has its own station. Though on race day it was a lot busier and took a bit longer, and if you wanted to…[Read more]

However Daniel Ricciardo failed to get a final podium for Red Bull and hasn’t had one since his Monaco victory in May. As he heads off to Renault, how long will it be until he next gets the chance to perform his t […]

@montreal95 I actually think some of those “yawn” circuits would be good additions to the list, simply because they are so unique. A four corner circuit, or a circuit in a car park, is just crazy!

@montreal95 Yep, it’s something I’m considering for next time- though admittedly the shortest circuits are generally a less interesting bunch

@fer-no65 Haha thank you! I’m still very much alive and visiting the site, but all the nonsense surrounding F1 over the last few years has rather dampened my interest

This last happened at the 2010 Monaco Grand Prix, when Mark Webber led home eventual champion Sebastian Vettel and Robert Kubica.
But when was the last time there was a podium with no champions past, present […]

Both Williams drivers finished in the top eight for the second consecutive race. You have to go all the way back to the 2004 Japanese and Brazilian GPs for the last time they managed this modest […]

Ned Flanders commented on the post, Vettel matches Ascari and Schumacher with ninth win 9 years, 6 months ago
I suppose, but he drove several races for Toro Rosso later that year so he passed my arbitrary five race threshold! And de la Rosa drove almost half a year for McLaren in 2006

It occurred to me that, while Kovalainen’s Lotus performances were indeed disappointing, it’s actually quite unusual for stand in drivers to score points.
So I did some calculations. Of the 33 drivers I counted […]

Austria 1998 was one of the first to come to mind! But it was very similar to France 1999 without quite as unusual an outcome

They were indeed good, but I suppose they were little different to any of the other Schumi v Hakkinen qualifying duels of the era. I generally prefer to try and pick out the more unusual incidents in F1 history!

But he also went from 5th to 1st at the Chinese GP that year with four passes outside the DRS zone, IIRC.

I know how you feel Keith. DRS is doing what several years of tedious races never could and is killing my interest in F1. The line between sport and entertainment is a thin one, and I think F1 has crossed […]

But hopefully this sort of thing will make Shell think twice before they cut corners on costs and risk oil spills etc

Sauber dropped Nick Heidfeld at the end of 2009 but he returned for the final fly away races in 2010, if that counts

What a sad state of affairs. The worst thing is there’s no real prospect of change while the same hardliners are in power and the irrational Iranophobia persists.
It’s also such a shame that the Bahrain GP […]
