Optimaximal commented on the post, F1 needs to "adapt" rules before 2026 to close gap between teams – Hamilton 3 weeks, 2 days ago
I quite clearly remember him saying he was working with his team mate to generate some excitement and he hoped Red Bull/Renault and Ferrari would sort their engines in time to challenge them. Lewis & Nico were […]

Rushing to change the rules of the sport after two dull races is exactly the kind of behaviour I’d expect from today’s Netflix generation.Did you miss the calls from St. Bernard to scrap the 2014 Hybrid reg […]

Optimaximal commented on the post, Verstappen confirms the Second Age of Red Bull as Alonso turns back the clock 2 months, 3 weeks ago
The problem is, the sport has (once again) engineered itself into massive development restrictions at the same time as a regulation change – just as F1 accidentally baked in the Mercedes engine advantage with the […]

Will you concede the same for Max in 2026 if he’s sewn up all the following championships with a similar win rate in the same car, or is he just the GOAT? Be honest.

Optimaximal commented on the post, Russell says Red Bull 'should win every race' and he's willing to 'sacrifice' season 2 months, 3 weeks ago
@proesterchen Except, of course, for 2017, and 2018, and 2019, and 2020, when Mercedes chose to place safe-hands Valtteri in that second car.Bottas who, despite his relative weakness to Hamilton, was allowed to […]

@slowmo I think the interesting thing is the ‘fans’ who pilloried HAM and Mercedes for 2014-2021 come from two camps – one camp wants an even spread of performance and, ultimately, good close racing. The other […]

Optimaximal commented on the post, Honda acknowledge "clear advantage" in power unit's MGU-K performance 3 months ago
@stefmeister I think I’ve ultimately just lost all faith in the governing body actually running the sport properly – from the Todd administration deliberately sitting back and letting many many bad things happen, […]

None of them had reliability problems to do with the fuel, per-se. E10 fuel just delivers less energy per litre due to the changed mixture, so the engines have to work a bit harder to deliver the required power […]

Optimaximal commented on the post, One team has bucked F1's trend for darker liveries – and expects others to follow 3 months, 1 week ago
You’d think an @armchairexpert would realise that sticking extra stuff in the car like a hybrid battery system, a weighty driver-safety system like the halo and larger tyres would result in the weight limit going up.

@hunocsi It likely boils down to somebody having a trademark or patent and they’re demanding a royalty to use it…
…which means people just, well, won’t use it…

@macleod It’s not even that – the ’23 car is 90% carried over with minimal changes outside of the floor height regs. As a result, the car was likely already pretty much done before the ruling came out. The only […]

Optimaximal commented on the post, Mercedes explain their 'table of doom' which predicted worst tracks for W13 6 months ago
That’s a heck of a lot of words to say ‘our car was fundamentally a draggy mess and once we sorted the suspension bouncing it still only really performed well on the slower tracks and those at higher altitudes’…

Interesting to see if they stayed within the budget. The cars are effectively carryovers so if they can just move any developments over, they’re only spending it once.

I believe the F1 entry is owned by the Ltd Company that operates the Brackley team (therefore if, for example, Daimler decided to sell the team, its entry goes with it), ergo it’s accounts would likely be […]

They’re all up to their necks in it, because F1 teams have repeatedly show themselves as businesses who will happily chase and spend money without asking a) where it comes from or b) if it actually exists.
