  1. It’s cheaper on Game.co.uk by the way…

    1. Yeah but if you buy from Amazon you are donating to this website, Amazon give them a share of profit.

    2. I can’t believe how expensive this is. CODMW2 was £45 on Amazon, with a RRP of £55

  2. Looking at the preview pics, there is a Brawn car, and the design of the cars looks like 2009 cars.

Do you know if this was preliminary or will the cars be based on 2009 designs?

    1. The final version WILL be of the 2010 season, so the new teams and liveries, and indeed driver lineups WILL be in the new video games.

The original build was 2009, but they pushed it back to 2010. It will include 2010-spec cars.

  3. The game is based on the 2010 season

  4. It really sucks that the season will be bascially over by the time they release it assuming it is on schedule. I wouldn’t be surprised if this becomes f1 2011. I cant remember when a game was actually released when it was intended.

    1. It does seem kind of silly. I remember getting F1 1998* for the 1998 season, not after it.

In today’s gaming world, where there are patches and updates galore, why not release the game before the season starts and constantly update it to reflect the performances of the cars in the real world?

*and I loved it, so :-P to the haters!

      1. F1’97 > F1’98

        And you know it.

        1. F1 ‘9-anything >>>>>> F1 ‘0late :-P

      2. The Fifa series includes a season long dynamic player rating system, that updates players ratings, injuries etc as the season progresses along with the real life season. I’m not sure exactly how it works, but I could see a similar system being implemented in the future for F1 games.

Expect to pay for this privilege however, developers are starting to charge for multiplayer and other online ‘enhancements’ outside the initial cost of buying the game! :(

        1. With FIFA, you can get live player ratings free for one league of your choosing. And then you have to pay for the other leagues avaliable, if you choose.

I don’t see Codemasters using a similar system for F1 2010. But I think each driver will have certain rating for certain tracks and scenarios.

      3. The Problem is, By waiting, they can see the comparative performance of the cars, what issues become important to f1 (like “dirty air”) and even how the cars are perceived to handle (We all think the Red Bull has a lot of grip, true or not).

On the other hand, patches, become very inconvenient for some people, maybe you can deal with a 2 gig download to totally revise all the cars graphics, sounds and characteristics, but I can’t!

  5. Who’s going to sell the add-ons that let you activate your f-duct with your hand / knee? :)

    1. Maybe it bodes badly for F1 organisers when the casual fans start suggesting things like “It would make more sense to save the money and just make it a button on your wheel.”

    2. Okay, I can see buying the add-ons like steering wheels and pedals. But the F-Duct…we’d be buying a hole … ?

      :)

  6. September 24th… that’s a few days after my brithday. I’d better start dropping hints to my friends and family!

    1. You lucky thing…

    2. Few days after mine as well :-)

  7. YES! I cant wait. I currently race on my computer using rfactor which is pretty cool. If your not familiar with rfactor, it’s a racing simulation game. I suggest you check it out…it’s really awesome. So many cars and tracks you can download (for free). Not the greatest graphics, but so much diversity in racing – http://www.rfactor.nethttp://www.rfactorcentral.com – either way I’m super excited for the new F1 2010 game, it looks amazing!

    1. rFactor is ofcourse based off F1 2002, (the last F1 game for PC ever made, and hence the bog standard graphics). Currently playing F1RFT 2010, my favourite track is Kyalami from 1979, great to be able to play great tracks from the past…

      1. how is F1RFT 2010? I’ve been running WCP 09 while waiting for WCP 2010. Kyalami is a great track! I haven’t downloaded the older track, but I have the newer version (i think) from the 90’s, which is a lot of fun. It’s great being able to run any car on any track :)

I very much doubt I will be buying this game, I love F1 and I’m huge game nerd but mixing those sort of hobbies usually doesn’t work. An F1 game can be as accurate as it can be but it wont be accurate enough, gaming skills and or easy coded game engine can overcome something so trivial as a burst tyre… I can pretty much garantee going into the gravel in the game wont damage the chassis.

I do love both forms of entertainment but I wont be buying, I like pizza and I like ice cream, but I would never mix them.

Saying that, as a teen F1 games did help me understand the tracks a little more, they just felt shallow.

  9. I should think I’ll be buying, but I highly doubt I’ll pre-order.

I really wonder how much scope there is for DLC for this title. I mean, they (Codies) could be nice and patch cars and tracks from 2011, but I suspect they shan’t. In fact, i think I remember from an interview that they won’t be.

It’ll be a FIFA-style yearly update. Same game minor tweaks, another £40 spent. The game is looking like it’ll shape up well though.

The licence cost 200 million, I very much doubt it’ll be free DLC.

Especially not on the PS3, since any content downloaded Sony charge something like 3 pounds to the publisher for every GB of data.

So if they put out a 1GB new car and updates pack and 10 thousand people download it, Sony would charge Codies £30,000

The figures aren’t exact, its something like 3.65 dollars, but its there abouts.

OH MY GOD I’M A HUGE GEEK!, why the hell do I know this?

      1. There there, being a geek is fine. us geeks have to stick together. And yes, I know there won’t be any free DLC, although I never stated that any DLC would be free, I’d expect them to charge something for it. Are you sure the licence from cost Codies 200 million?… that seems like an incredibly huge amount of money for a video game licence.

        1. Sush Meerkat
          12th May 2010, 17:55

Yeah I’m pretty sure its one of those huge figures, but its for several years worth of games.

Microsoft paid 75million for GTA4 to be on the Xbox including first dibs on DLC so 200million for a couple of years of F1 isn’t a huge stretch for the imagination considering Bernie’s normally sky high prices.

      2. I never knew that about the DLC. What a terrible arrangement.

Presumably Xbox game developers face a similar kind of charge, but not PC developers I assume?

        1. PC gamers generally recieve similar extra content for free, as there isn’t the same subscription system for PC gaming as there is for Xbox Live or PSN (although PSN is free, extra content usually isn’t).

Although there’s always the possibility of F12010 being released on Steam for PC, are they will be able to charge fo DLC through that.

        2. Sush Meerkat
          12th May 2010, 18:52

To Keith, no Xbox devs don’t get charged because the online service is charged to the user (thats me and you) not the developer, Microsoft gets money on everything anyway.

Sony’s arrangement is the the user gets things for free providing the developer pays for the bandwith Sony paid for in the first place.

When it came to the glory days of PC’s devs paid millions in up keep of servers that run the downloads and the running of games.

So your right, PC devs don’t pay anyone for a bandwith charge, but they do however pay for new servers and general maintenance of servers…. which is costly.

        3. There will be no DLC for F1 2010.

    2. DLC = downloadable content? or some other TLA? (three letter acronym, FYI) THB IMO people should explain the TLA if there’s scope for ambiguity!
      LOL
      yes me = hypocrite

  10. Shame, I just checked US Amazon and there’s no pre-order for this at all. Not that I’d actually pre-order it but I wish we had the same coverage.

    1. Everyone (even in the UK) please nicely could you search for this game on US amazon.com a few dozen times so they get the hint? Maybe we’ll get a pre-order in time for my birthday… Thanks ever so much.

  11. The Amazon pre order price will probably go down and it doesn’t matter how much you pre order it for, you will pay the price of the game on it’s release. So if you pre order now for 39.99 and on the 24th it’s 34.99 you will get a 5.00 refund, that coupled with the donation the site will get, an Amazon pre order is well worth it.

Once when it comes out im buying it on PS3 i hope its gonna be a experience and a game i’ll never get bored of and never forget

  13. No US pre-sale? booo

    1. As long as the pre-order is before the release date, it doesn’t really matter. :)

Keith – any referral links for the US Amazon.com so we can help you out?

  14. Does anyone know (or care) when this will come out in a U.S. format?

    1. It’s scheduled for US release around Sept/Oct.

Here’s where I go every once in a while to get the latest info…

      http://community.codemasters.com/forum/f1-2010-game-1316/411156-f1-2010-what-we-know-so-far.html

It should answer all your questions, and more.

  15. i can imagine you’ll need a super computer to play it on the PC. :(

  16. anyone know if there will be a speacial wheel released or is it best to get the logitech g25/27?

  17. Bought it already, and used the link. Cheers.

  18. I wonder will it have the new layout of Silverstone?

    1. it will have the new layout

Does anyone know when the New Zealand preorder will be available, I tried to order it from Amazon UK but I couldn’t ship it to NZ

  20. i had to wait till late november to buy f1 2009 for psp; my buddy also hacked a copy of it for his wii. it was nicely designed and all, but it had it control flaws, so all n all it was okay at best. sadly, i agree with the guy from before, id rather play an old skool f1 game instead, i had f1 97 or 98 or something but the i found f1 championship for ps2 ad i created a driver and it keeps me coming back to play, so whether or not ill fork out 60-70 dollars on this one remains to be seen, us has later release date im sure and the lack of updates to go with the game makes it sucky. why can you update rosters and team progress i other sports games but not with f1? too many restrictions, which is dumb cause its hard enough to watch f1 in north america let alone try to buy a game and enjoy it at home.

    1. I am telling you now, Sam, this one is going to be MASSIVE. The weather is the best in any driving game thus far, or that’s what Codemasters say, and the driving will be absolutely terrific. Not to mention, when you are in a career, you will be able to sign up for a drive in a team and improve the car over the course of the season. If you’re good enough, a bigger team will spot you, and you’ll be offered contracts with them.

That’s not all! Two words: Press Conferences. Yes, you’ll be able to dish out the dirt on and off track, set up rivalries, slate or praise the team and just generally Be The Driver. This one is going to be sweet. Oh, and all the AI drivers on track have their own driving styles.

Can I just say that I missed a KillZone 2 clan match because Keith asked about downloads.

Thanks Keith! my clan didn’t have a sniper because I was too busy making sure I made a correct answer on here for you.

It goes to show how good Keith is, I missed a competitive match because of his site, kudos Keith.

  22. I´m thinking in buying the game but I don’t know how many euros are 35 pounds. Could you say that to me?

    1. Jarred Walmsley
      12th May 2010, 22:34

      xe.com, it’s the site I always use it’s fantastic but it’s 41euro

  23. £50 for PS3!? I preordered mine on Amazon a couple of weeks ago and was only £39.95

  24. iRacing.com will be launching last year’s Williams later this year. Sure they don’t have the full F1 calendar of tracks, but it is the most accurately modelled racing simulation on the market. I am currently trying to get my head around the newly launched V8 Supercar… very fun but bloody hard!

So I’ll keep my eyes on the reviews of f1 ’10 and may get it just to help familiarise myself with the tracks but for enjoying racing and getting a feel of an F1 car, it’ll be iRacing all the way.

    1. polishboy808
      13th May 2010, 17:25

I just got a one month sub. to iRacing to try it out and this is hard! I’ve played rfactor and gt legends and had absoulutly no problems, then I try this with the solstice and I can’t complete a full lap without going off the road once! It really challenging.

  25. There are very few PS3 games that I would be desperate enough to buy new for the full price. These would probably be gran turismo 5 and a new resistance game. Not sure sure if I would spend that much on a new breed of F1 game which I have no experience of.

  26. ok… this is how excited i am.

i have macs. i have not contemplated windows for years. i refuse to have it in the house. i think its evil. windows makes me fell dirty.

    however.

i’m prepared to put windows on my macbookpro, just because of this game. it goes every computing fibre of my being, but this is too good to miss just because i’m a bit of a stick-in-the-mud when it come to operating systems.

    GRIN

  27. errr… against every fibre, i mean.

    i’m tired…

  28. Why September though? If this game was originally designed for 2009 they should have some previews out with the 2010 cars by now. And how about upgrades? I’m not going to pre-order until I either see some more footage/screenshots of the actual 2010 season.

  29. I’m just a bit disappointed that there isn’t a “Rob Smedley” mode, where after setting up the car, you can tell the driver to push, maintain lap times, conserve fuel, or just stay cool because we are bringing him his white visor… :D

    1. that made me laugh!

      ta

    2. Nathan Bradley
      13th May 2010, 11:17

Or a Jenson Button 2009 Silverstone mode: “How, how can this car be so bad at the moment!? :)

      Nathan

    3. I hear that in next contract negotiations, Smedley will be holding out for a percentage of the driver’s salary.

  30. I’ll be getting it on the Xbox360, better enviroment to talk to people unlike the PS3 online where everybody is… and Xbox live is smoother online then PSN with less crashing also.
In my opinion I find xbox controllers are more suited to driving games compared to the classic playstation controler where you slip off the brake or accelerate buttons countless times while racing.
So if you have got a PS3, buy the F1 championship edition, if you still can, and see what I mean. I would say buy a racing wheel if your going with the PS3 version and save yourself the stress of messing up.

  31. Just pre ordered it.

September 24th can’t come soon enough!

  32. is the shipping from amazon.co.uk available only to people inside UK? or, can i order the game from amazon.com and still support f1fanatic?

  33. Can someone please convince me to invest in an 360. give me factors to acquire a xbox that aren’t: ”better online” – p2p gaming will be the same everywhere, twitter and netflx are nothing. ”better” games – ps3 gets the same as xbox and other people i cant play on PC better graphics – multiplatform games are mainly the very same

  34. Just a note to say thanks for putting up a great effort for your blog.
