Is that a small version of the track a bit north east of the actual track?
BasCB (@bascb)
12th February 2011, 11:22
Yes, it is a kart track mimicking the track for cars. Nice touch, isn’t it?

Looked mighty big for a kart-track… But yes, that is quite a cool idea.

Looks like the opening on the front of the McLaren Keith pictured before might still be meant for an exhaust opening, with McLaren alternating between the exhausts on the back blowing over the diffusor and possibly partly through the starter hole and the other ending in the tea tray. (some discussions on Twitter going on).
Apparently takes them over 2 hrs to change floors and systems for the comparisons

Interesting to compare Alonsos 15 laps stint with Schumi doing the same at the same time.
Alonso started with a 1:26.338 then had about 6 laps in the 1:26.5 range and ended with a 1:27.85 and a 1:28.977, while Schumi started with a comparable 1:26.521, had only 2 comparable laps before dropping off and finished with a 1:28.671 and a last lap of 1:32.327.
Seems the Ferrari was not only a bit faster at the start, but kept the low times going far longer.

Quick Nick now 2. fastest time…
Derek
12th February 2011, 14:39
Why has Hamilton only completed 28 laps, are there problems with the car??
BasCB (@bascb)
12th February 2011, 15:04
They were reported to alternate 2 exhaust systems, one classical and another with front exits. The change between the variants is about 2+ hours of work.
And he did a lot of outlap, timed lap, inlap runs. Same for Button yesterday.
Remember, McLaren have the new car out on track only for the 3rd day, just like Virgin and FI. They are still making checks of everything they have on the car. Only part of the day is used for longer runs.
Derek
12th February 2011, 15:11
Thanks BasCB. I was begining to think McLaren may have problems. With all that short runs they were still only .7 secs behind the front. Let’s hope Jensen gets some long runs in tomorrow, and that they find the best option with the exhausts.
BasCB (@bascb)

I just did see some reports, they were having a bit of a problem with not enough spare parts limiting the running to shorter stints today.
But that does not sound like the car is slow, just a manufacturing issue.
Palle
12th February 2011, 14:53
And now he is even faster than Alonso – thumbs up Nick, good to see You in action again…
Derek
12th February 2011, 15:01
The cars are slower than yesterday
faaba
12th February 2011, 15:57
the ferrari again in the first two places, the worst that car has been is 5th when massa had a problem. 2 days in first, 3 days in second and 1 day in 5th.
They are doing at least 100 laps per day. and they are not even looking at performace.they are looking at reliability, working on set up as massa said yesterday. .etc.
by the way heilfield is faster than alonso ’cause i’m pretty sure they are trying to get everything out of the car and will do the same with senna in order to compare or decide which one is faster and who is going to drive the car.
good to see this!!
