Andre Lotterer has taken Porsche’s factory Formula E team’s first pole position during a competitive session in Mexico, seeing off a stern challenge from Mitch Evans and Sam Bird.
In group qualifying only Bird, who had topped FP2, was able to make it into Super Pole from Group One, while Evans was fastest overall in Group Two.Lotterer, out fourth in Super Pole, set the best time – the first driver to go below 1’08 during the qualifying sessions. Evans went four thousandths quicker in sector two but lost time around the Peraltada, coming in six hundredths behind the Porsche.
Both Mahindra drivers have received 40-place grid penalties due to multiple gearbox changes and will start from the back of the grid.
Oliver Turvey was unable to set a time after his car stopped on track and Daniel Abt did not participate in qualifying following a very heavy crash in first practice which saw him airlifted to hospital for checks. Her has since been cleared and returned to the track, but is awaiting approval to be allowed to race.
