Dan Ticktum has been ruled out of taking part in today’s Formula 2 practice session at Spa-Francorchamps following an inconclusive test for Covid-19.

Drivers cannot enter the paddock without first having tested negative for the virus. Ticktum, pictured during the Silverstone round, is awaiting the result of a retest.

The news is a further blow for Ticktum’s DAMS team who are already without other regular driver this weekend.

Sean Gelael suffered a back injury during the Spanish round. He has been replaced for this weekend by Yuri Vips, who is making his debut in the series. Vips was the only DAMS driver who participated in today’s practice session at the circuit.

Ticktum’s participation in qualifying is also in doubt. The session is due to begin at 5pm local time, three hours and 20 minutes after the end of practice.

Ticktum, a member of Williams’ junior driver programme, arrived at Spa 10th in the Formula 2 points standings. He scored his only win of the year so far in the sprint race at Silverstone.

One other driver failed to set a time in F2’s practice session on Friday. Giuliano Alesi crashed on the downhill run towards Eau Rouge shortly after leaving the pits, damaging his front wing. He pulled off the circuit and the session was temporarily red-flagged.
