Formula 1’s first official exhibition has been formally opened at the IFEMA convention centre in Madrid where it will run for several months.

The first curated F1 exhibition featuring items and displays from all ten current teams and teams from across F1 history, the six-room display includes the remains of Romain Grosjean’s Haas VF-20 which erupted in flames when he crashed heavily during the opening lap of the 2020 Bahrain Grand Prix. Pierre Gasly’s Italian Grand Prix-winning AlphaTauri from the same season is also on display.

The exhibition includes a series of photographs from across the early decades of grand prix racing, helmets from many drivers over the years, a Ferrari F1 power unit publicly displayed for the first time as well as other audio-visual elements to tell the story of the history of the world championship.

Upon its opening, lead curator Timothy Harvey said that the idea to hold an F1 exhibition was first discussed in 2017.

“To map out the history of the sport I love has been one of the biggest honours of my life,” Harvey said. “Building something like this is a huge undertaking and I would like to thank everyone who has worked so hard and contributed their time to make it the incredible show it is today. I hope people enjoy experiencing it as much as we have enjoyed creating it.”

Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali said the display “celebrates Formula 1’s history in innovative and engaging ways”.

“I am particularly excited that our passionate Spanish fans will have the opportunity to first experience this breathtaking show,” said Domenicali. “I am grateful to everyone who has helped capture the heart and soul of the sport we all love in this exhibition.”

The F1 Exhibition is open to the public from tomorrow, Friday 24th, with tickets available for €19.99.

  1. Dynamite. Would love to see this come to The Petersen in LA.

  2. As I don’t happen to be in Madrid during the exhibition, I hope it’ll also arrive in other cities to have a better chance later.
I like the mannequin drivers in seating positions, though.

  3. I though there has been one for decades but I was wrong.
