Formula 1 has agreed another new deal to continue racing at the Red Bull Ring just four months after the last was announced.

The series announced a contract extension with the Austrian venue in March, keeping it on the calendar until 2027. The new deal adds a further three years, meaning F1 will race at the track until at least 2030.

The event at the Red Bull Ring returned to the schedule in 2014. As well as holding a race every year since then it put on extra grands prix during the pandemic-affected 2020 and 2021 seasons.

F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali said the team behind the Austrian event is “exceptional”, and paid tribute to Red Bull founder Dietrich Mateschitz, who passed away last year.

“The vision and passion of Dietrich Mateschitz, a man who loved this sport, made this all possible and it is a very special moment and a tribute to him that we can confirm we will be racing at this incredible venue until 2030.

“The race in Austria is a big favourite for the drivers and all our fans and we are looking forward to many years of excitement and action that are ahead of us.”

The venue first held the Austrian Grand Prix in 1970, when it was known at the Osterreichring. The original track, one of the fastest ever used by F1, remained part of the schedule until 1987. The series returned 10 years later by which time the track had been drastically shortened into its current guise and renamed the A1-Ring.

F1 left the track after 2003, but returned in 2014 after its renovation and renaming by Red Bull. Its new three-year deal means the race will be part of the calendar for at least 16 consecutive seasons, one less than its original run.

  1. It’s a fun track. But it’s officious nonsense to watch. Don’t bother rolling out the red (or blue) carpet for the little darlings, out beyond the kerbs. Lose the kerbs. And the kerbs beyond the other kerbs. Make the circuit self-policing.

  2. Good to hear after the 2 awesome races this year, as well as other really good races years ago, back when it was merc vs ferrari vs red bull at similar speed.
