Sting Ray Robb is moving to AJ Foyt’s team for his second season in IndyCar next year.

The 21-year-old said it was a “dream come true” to move to the team run by the four-times Indianapolis 500 winner. “It provides an opportunity for me to implement past lessons and carry momentum forward in my sophomore season as we enter a very competitive field of teams and drivers,” said Robb.

Robb arrived in IndyCar this year after finishing second to Linus Lundqvist in the Indy Lights series (now known as Indy Nxt). Following a difficult start in the series, he achieved more regular results in the second half of the season.

Over the first six races, Robb only saw the chequered flag once, crashing in half of those starts. He finished all the remaining rounds, but going into the finale had never placed higher than 17th. He produced his best drive of the season at Laguna Seca, however, ending his first season with 12th place.

That left him 23rd in the championship standings ahead of only one full-time driver, Benjamin Pedersen, who drove for the Foyt team Robb will now race for. Foyt is yet to confirm the identity of his team mate for next season. Pedersen was partnered by Santino Ferrucci this year.

Foyt team president Larry Foyt said he had taken note of Robb’s performances earlier in his career. He won the Indy Pro 2000 title in 2020, claiming seven victories on the way.

“I have to admit his name caught my eye when he was in the junior formulas, so I watched his rise through IndyCar’s ladder system where he did really well,” said Foyt. “I believe he is a great addition to our program and will showcase everything he learned in his rookie campaign in the NTT IndyCar series.”
