Indian F1 is already a Big Hit ! Pity Karun is not part of the driver line up..Knew and watched his papa race on the Sholavaram track -yesteryears and Karun is an Ace if given the right car and co…Like de CWG ,Indian F1 is set to blaze…and folks India delivers in time, that very unique and special..In any sport/arena winning by a whisker is a ‘Thriller” MJ wud agree if he were alive ! Please don’t compare this to the Commonwealth Games. The last thing we want is another fiasco with poor planning, shoddy craftsmanship and going hundreds of millions of rupees over its budget.

Is anyone a solo traveller heading over for the Indian race? I will be there, but looking for company and someone to share transport costs with (since it looks like it will be a cab to and from the circuit…)
And tickets aren’t on sale yet but the preliminary costs looked reasonable by F1 standards (although still priced out of reach of the majority of the Indian population) – quoted as between 3000-50000 INR.

Hi drmikki
In all probability I will be going and commuting from Noida daily so could be interested in sharing taxi to and from curcuit. However I have read somewhere that the organisers will be laying on free transportaion from some Metro stations to circuit as happens at other GP’s

TBWG,
I booked accomodation at Maya’s Nest Hostel (via hostelworld.com) – it’s a bit out of the city centre, but since the track is miles away from the city centre I didn’t think that would make much difference, since I will be spending most of my time at the track. It’s very cheap and good reviews.
I just wish tickets would come on sale… it’s making me very nervous! If it doesn’t go ahead, I think I’ll head to either Darjeeling or Chennai, but if Air Asia are promoting a competition that’s (hopefully) a sign all will proceed as planned!
TBWG (@tbwg)
29th July 2011, 21:06
Hi drmikki
Well I have finally booked flight and accomodation ~~ quite frankly I think there is no way this event will not happen. They are far ahead of the situation that Korea was in at the same time. OK maybe it will not be 100% but it will happen, a private company does not spend that amount of money without expecting a return!
Anyway I am staying in Noida so if you want to meet up let me know. Maybe there will be an F1 fanatic meeting?

Just remembered ~~~
Air Asia emailed me today plugging flights to Dehli for the GP and also having a draw for 50 entrance tickets.
So Tony Fernandes is obviously convinced it is going to happen and he must be in the know!
Anyone booked hotel accomodation yet?

Hey TBWG..booked silver stand 3 at turn 4…half of the blocks are already sold out here..and jut a few rows available in the rest…the main Grandstand on the start finish straight’s also 95% sold!! Looks like most of the good stands would be completely sold out in the next few days, so waiting would be a gamble!! The promoters are expecting to close out the sales in 10 days..

Hi Sam
How did you find out tickets are selling out? According to official site availabilty in all stands!
I still intend to book via official F1 site if it goes live tomorrow! But would like to know how you found out what was sold out ~~~ in case I need to PANIC!!!
Will they post tkts to you or do you have to pick up at the circuit?
Thanks TBWG (David)

Hey TBWG
We’ve been booking through bookmyshow:
http://in.bookmyshow.com/sport/airtel-grand-prix-fone/tickets/
Check out the center blocks of the Main Grandstand, and some blocks of turn 4 to see what I mean..All stands are available, but some interesting blocks are gone..Also, some of the officials have been quite bullish in interviews over the past couple of days here..
Don’t think you need to totally panic today though. If you know that the tickets would be available on formula1.com tomorrow, you could wait. See the link above to get a sense, depending on the grandstand you’re shortlisting. But if they take 4-5 days to go live, then would suggest keeping an eye on the booking link above to ensure you don’t get boxed out..these are the official ticketing partners and the website is pretty big in India.
Both home delivery and venue pickups are possible.
hope this helps
cheers!

Thanks Sam
Well I decided to bite the bullet and booked a Premium Stand south.
However when I tried to do this on the official site you mention, it would not accept my credit card! As the delivery address I require is not the billing address, and nowhere could I find a collect there option.
So I have now booked through a Europe based outfit F1GPT and all is well. However the downside is that I have not been able to book the 3 day transit bus as yet, but I will sort that when I get there.
They are a bit naughty charging you for it as in Oz & China all GP transport is free!
Anyway now can’t wait!!!

Hey David
That’s awesome!!
Been repeatedly searching for updates on the tracks too..it’s gonna be a long 2 months!
Have read that due to the elevation, you can see a large part of the track from that stand..

In all the research I have done re tickets I have not come across any ref to Paddock Club tickets. Maybe when the Official F1 website finally puts the Indian tickets on sale maybe they might have that option. Sorry can’t be of more help!

paddock club tickets are in mumbai and just a ride on the bus to delhi,,only in india,,
drmikki
23rd August 2011, 16:24
My understanding is that there is fairly standard pricing for the Paddock Club – no ‘cheap deals’- and the official source is the best. http://www.formulaonepaddockclub.com The India packages have been on sale for a good while. Long before the grandstands went on sale, they were selling Paddock club tickets – possibly good that a Bernie-business has a vested interest in the race going ahead!!
You are looking at US$4200 for the 2 day pass for most of the flyaway races. Unless someone else is paying, I’m not sure it’s worth it… That said, I’ve never been in Paddock Club so maybe it’s worthwhile; I’d rather not know what I am missing out on ;-P

I have booked my tickets for the race!
Classic Stand 1 West (Block D) for Rs. 6,500 each.
I was eligible to purchase a parking pass (Rs. 1500) for 1 car cos i booked 5 tickets (3 are minimum for car, 2 for a 2 wheeler).
If anyone can share info about Pit-Walk passes it would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

I ll booking tickets along with my frnds soon for the Indian GP.
Wanted suggestions amongst the following viewing areas.
Which one is the best ?
1) Classic Stand 2 East – Rs 6500
2) Star Stand 3 East – Rs 8500
3) Premier Stand South – Rs 12500
4) Star Stand 2 East – Rs 8500
5) Picnic Stand South – Rs 6000
Thanks !
Raj

My suggestion would be Star Stand 3 East as cars are going to slow down massively there, so can have better look at them. Moreover most of overtaking can happen there.

how about the main road,,plenty of action there,
Pedro 917
13th September 2011, 10:46
Hi
I have booked Premier stand south.
Mainly because it is the highest point with a view of quite a lot of the circuit.
It is also a long radius corner at the end of an uphill drag so the cars are relatively slow.
However as it is the first ever GP there your guess is as good as anybodies!
Enjoy

picnic stand north

classic stand 1,2 east
For me picnic stand north seems to be the best….but not sure picnic stands will be a hit in India

Booked 3 tickets for Classic East 1.As per published circuit plans, this stand should give a view(from the middle seats where i am i hope)of the Grand stand/pit side lanes. That is the only way I can see the grand stand area as grand stand tickets are too costly for me,wife as it is is wondering why am i spending so much !! It should also have a good view of the incoming cars from the long straight from the North Stand sides.Since this is the first race no way to tell till it actually happens.Wishing for a good race.

Hi guys,
we all are excited about this mega event which is going to host in our country this eve.
Its gonna be big big day for India, but there are lots of discussion about the event that:-
(1)is it really worth to invest such a big amount of money in F1 sports specially in India where every citizen of india r nt havn ther own car,as well as ppl r havnn very diverse economy, richer gets richer & poorer gets poorer.
(2)dis que s nt only abt economy, but also abt games which we hav forgotten,Our national game “Hockey”,we are nt evn lookn into it.
These que might dishearten F1 fans, but its an ugly truth,as its very controversial topic.
waiting for more comments on dis topic.
