How does an F1 driver communicate with their race engineer?

Hi everyone!
Does anyone know of any detailed accounts of a driver/rider’s relationship with a race engineer? A really good online article, interview or even an autobiography from an F1/Indy/Le Mans/WRC driver. I am after specifically how a driver can feel the car/bike and convert it into terms the engineer can understand.
For context, I am writing a PhD on how we interact with mechanical systems and am drawing from my own experience from racing go-karts as part of it. But want some accounts from the pros.
