I never saw a replay of Hamilton’s stop, what slowed him down? If it was a normal stop, none of this would have happened, and he would have leapfrogged ahead of Norris and Max.
Could be worse, the football team I support currently has Dogecoin as an on-shirt sponsor which is, literally, a joke.
Martin commented on the post, Racing outside F1 gives McLaren "commercial advantage" – Brown 1 month ago
In most years, the finish is quite relaxed as there aren’t any really close battles and people are just nursing the car making sure they finish. It provides a good photo op for the winners too. It would be a shame […]
Martin commented on the post, Raghunathan's private F1 test debut for Alfa Romeo a "great day" 1 month, 2 weeks ago
I’m kind of surprised the midfield teams don’t have a dedicated commercial arm to allow rich gentleman racers to test recent F1 cars. Given what people pay to race in GT cars, or to go privately into space, I’m […]
I think part of the celebration was because it was the British Grand Prix in front of a full house, after a season and a half of no/few fans in the stands. If it had been half-empty grandstands in, say, France, we […]
Martin commented on the post, Hamilton expects F1's first Sprint race will be a procession 2 months, 2 weeks ago
I think the only exception to this will be people who mess up in qualifying and so end up out of position (e.g., a Red Bull or Merc that has a mechanical issue on Friday, or spins in qualy, and so never makes it […]
Martin commented on the post, W Series boss says it will not become a "billionaire girls' club" 2 months, 3 weeks ago
I was sceptical of having a segregated all-female series, but the thing they really got right in 2019 and made we really engage with it was how accessible it was, and how every driver was treated the same. No one […]
Martin commented on the post, Pit stop row shows teams are partly to blame for F1's over-regulation 2 months, 3 weeks ago
Anyone asked DHL what they think about the FIA undermining the fastest pit stop award that they sponsor?
Martin commented on the post, 'Hamilton didn't break the rules by reversing' shouldn't be a story 4 months, 4 weeks ago
I’ve watched F1 for almost 30 years, and even I wasn’t sure whether or not what Hamilton was doing was allowed or would get a penalty. I know reversing wasn’t allowed in some instances (but couldn’t remember off […]
Martin commented on the post, McLaren's Brown wants third US F1 race at Indianapolis 5 months ago
Anyone saying they would like a new race at X location is meaningless unless they also say which race they would drop from the calendar. I would prefer Indy over Russia, but not at the expense of Spa or Brazil.
Martin commented on the post, Six penalty points for one crash puts Turvey halfway towards ban 5 months, 1 week ago
Surely Indycars fit the bill? Or Super Formula?
Yay, COTD! I’ve been thinking about it a bit more, and even if teams are allowed substitutes on Saturday, it’s going to stop most third drivers running on weekends with sprint qualifying. You would want your main […]
Will teams be able to change their driver after Friday qualifying? Or do they need to stick with whoever’s in the seat on Friday quali for the sprint qualifying and the main event? It could create less o […]
I also think it’s more likely than not his last season: get the record number of titles, 100 wins, 100 poles, and retire to focus on what he wants to do outside of the sport. However, I do wonder if he’ll wait to […]
I couldn’t spot any Mercedes branding on the new car anywhere, unless I missed it. Usually customer teams have a discreet logo on the engine cover at least. I’m not sure what that says about the relationship […]
Martin commented on the post, Buemi and Kubica to join Alonso at Young Drivers Test 9 months, 2 weeks ago
COVID isn’t likely to go away in a meaningful sense until the second half of 2021. I wonder if these announcements in part reflects teams wanting to make sure they have an experienced back-up ready with recent car […]
Martin commented on the post, Hamilton: Young F1 stars shouldn't be "handicapped" by salary cap 10 months ago
I really don’t see the point of a salary cap. No team is uncompetitive because they couldn’t afford a top driver, it’s because they can’t afford to develop the car. It’s solving a problem that doesn’t exist. […]
Martin commented on the post, No simulator runs mean Kvyat is "starting from zero" at Istanbul 10 months, 2 weeks ago
I’m kinda surprised that the drivers who aren’t into sim racing haven’t invested in a rig for themselves to train for these new/returning tracks. It seems like an easy thing to do to get a bit of marginal […]
I find that statement that the opportunity never presented itself a bit bizarre. As it states in the article, he was probably considered when they went with Kvyat instead, and I’m sure they could have recalled him […]
Martin commented on the post, Why drivers believe F1's reverse grid plan would produce "really boring" races 1 year ago
The reason it was exciting to see Gasly at the front was because he was competing for a race win. It wouldn’t have been anywhere near as captivating if he was merely trying to get pole, especially if it was […]
