Julian Goddard commented on the post, Ferrari defend "proper and right" decision to pit Sainz after he passed Perez 2 weeks, 5 days ago
Ferrari should not have pitted Sainz under the safety car, since he had hard tyres in his car.
Doing so, for medium tyres, meant another stop later on.
If Sainz had kept going, he could have changed onto the […]Julian Goddard commented on the post, Austrian GP top three summoned to stewards over potential rules breach 1 month ago
Yes, this must be investigated. No, Red Bulls pushing other cars off the track at Silverstone must not be investigated.
Julian Goddard commented on the post, Russell has no regrets over soft tyre gamble after crash leaves him eighth 1 month, 3 weeks ago
If both Ferraris and Red Bulls were in the mix, then the gamble makes sense as only 5th place could be squandered. But with 1 Ferrari and 1 Red Bull missing, this was a golden opportunity to achieve 3rd. That was […]

Thank you for the report. 3 months seemed like a long time, but now I’ve seen the report I can understand why it took so long. Good principles to uphold, I’m sure.

Integrity is displayed by continually making the right and fair decision.
Every time a wrong or unfair decision is made, integrity is eroded until it is collapses.
The FIA president can claim that their […]Julian Goddard commented on the post, F1's sprint race rules change won't end pole position confusion 5 months, 4 weeks ago
Surely the fastest driver on Friday will be on pole position for the first part of the GP race on Saturday, whereas the winner of the first part will be on pole for the second part of the GP race on Sunday.
Pole […]Julian Goddard commented on the post, 2021 F1 driver rankings #1: Max Verstappen 6 months, 2 weeks ago
Not convinced that giving a driver with such aggressive driving such a high ranking is sending the right message. Shame, max did have some excellent races. But driving people off the circuit and brake testing them […]

What rank would the author have given Hamilton if Masi hadn’t changed the rules and Hamilton had won the last race?

As soon as there was a safety car at that Kate stage, the championship would be decided by the decisions of the race director.
Surely a red flag and restart would have been a fairer decision than the race […]Julian Goddard commented on the post, Hamilton closes on another Schumacher record with first 'hat-trick' of 2021 8 months, 1 week ago
Hamilton has 5 poles this year. Bottas has 4. Verstappen has 9.
Julian Goddard commented on the post, Should Formula 1 have the same stewards at every race? 8 months, 2 weeks ago
I do not see this as an either/or situation.
Surely there are a number of stewards, so some could be permanent and some could be on a group of races basis.
I also think that the principles should be written down […]Julian Goddard commented on the post, Ocon's non-stop strategy shows pitting Hamilton was correct call – Mercedes 10 months ago
Did Lewis make up the time of the pit stop?
Not according to the graph above.
The only questions that remains are whether the tyres would have gone off even more, and whether the guys catching him could have […]Julian Goddard commented on the post, Staying on slicks "was no gamble" with information I had – Norris 10 months, 2 weeks ago
If Norris had pitted for inters when instructed, he would have finished 1st or 2nd. Probably 1st.
If Hamilton hadn’t pitted fir inters when he did, Verstappen would probably have won.Julian Goddard commented on the post, Alpine did "fantastic job" to score points with seventh-fastest car – Alonso 11 months ago
Only wrong with the sprint race was its length. Suggest 3 laps instead.
And maybe have a pre-sprint race as well, 3 laps.
How about a pre-pre-sprint race, 3 laps.
Etectera.

Max had a better car and in my opinion would have been better to back off and let Lewis have the corner. Max could overtake Lewis later. That approach is what great drivers with superior equipment have done in the […]
