@slowmo FWIW, here’s some folks on twitter trying to argue the same.. that the drag from rear tires might also be significant.
I think the car has way too much downforce.. and the fact that they have packaged […]
got it, (top pic – Merc, bottom – Ferrari) as you can see because there are virtually no sidepods the drag that rear tyres produce is humongous and is estimated to be ~10% bigger in Merc than in Ferrari pic.twitter.com/H6mvHyA8hH

Yep! Albert has a good comparison. Who knew Toto would literally take a chainsaw to the rear wing!

As someone wise once said, your wins are because of three factors: one-third what you do; one-third what your opponents do; and the remaining one-third is luck!
To anyone arguing that it’s all purely 100% due […]

@ChrisVB IMHO, RedBull have not been dominant mainly because of their engine; and MB was so ahead in their engine performance. Finally Honda delivered an engine that’s on-par or better last year. So, now it’s game on.

This site below talks about the changes in their gearbox. Perhaps the cooling helped them get a bit more power.

Perhaps we need to make TOEFL (Test of English as Foreign Language) a requirement for any individual who’s writing these rules — oh.. or should I say for all individuals writing these rules.

They definitely seem to be struggling. They don’t have any clean solution to the porpoising when they go for performance runs. Not clear what they can do in the next few days.

Looks like RB-18 definitely looks the strongest with nearly no porpoising effect. The last hour of running was just fabulous.

@david-br It’s going to be an interesting two days of testing.. can’t wait for the first race weekend.

If the car is that fast, perhaps they can simply adjust the ride height and take care of porpoising problem — even if it sacrifices some performance? They still have the thin wire/metal connecting the rear floor […]

Wow.. the car is bouncing quite a bit.. I hope the teams can come up with a good solution to avoid any catastrophic incidents in a race.

We have all read the stewards ruling. They also said 48.12 was not followed. FIA investigating itself, is post-rationalizing that 48.13 overrules 48.12, when the rulebook doesn’t say so.
