The recent overuse of red flags is undoubtedly a direct consequence of Pierre Gasly’s win for Alpha Tauri at the 2020 Italian GP. Prior to that weekend Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull had won every single race […]

Well if they allowed more teams into the sport we could have competitive Friday sessions, reasons for the fans to tune-in on a Friday, and an excellent spectacle for the fans at the track too. Pre-qualifying. Oh wait…

I guess this confirms Nico Hulkenberg to Haas then and Mick Schumacher left on the sidelines.
Personally I think that’s a shame. Mick has really started to up his game during the second half of this season but […]

Love the Kazuki Nakajima reference. That was my first thought too when we saw the replay. Seb also crashed in that race iirc, battling Kubica for the podium and ensuring the race finished under Safety Car (sorry, […]

I disagree with those saying no country should hold more than one race. The US is a huge country, similar in size to Europe. Each state is more like a country in its own right. So, providing the races are in […]

While I agree with COTD that it was difficult to follow, I think they were just having teething troubles with the new graphics and that they are intended to update as the old ones did. At one point whichever […]

Sure, if we are having them drop to the back of the field and programmatically giving them the lap back on the timing screens then yes, you’re right – car 8 is now behind car 7 on track and on the same lap too, […]

Yeah it’s the same solution, but I guess it’s tidier as it means the overtaking doesn’t have to happen on track around potential hazards that are still being cleared and no waiting for the hazard to be cleared […]

sbewers commented on the post, More than half the F1 field has led a race in most competitive hybrid season yet 1 year, 8 months ago
This one caught me by surprise. Lewis Hamilton now has as many championships (7) and as many race wins (100) as Sebastian Vettel, Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button combined.

Dieter is right to flag this. Nikita Mazepin’s fastest lap was set on lap 3, which didn’t count in the official results due to the count back rule under red flags. This is the same as how Kimi Raikkonen’s overtake […]

I’m probably in the minority here but I quite enjoyed that.
At the end of the day it is one additional competitive session at the expense of one non-competitive Practice session which I don’t watch anyway. So […]

We’ve now seen 6 red flag periods in races within the past year:

2020 Tuscan GP – Lap 9 – Restart pile-up
2020 Tuscan GP – Lap 46 – Stroll crash
2020 Bahrain GP – Lap […] -

I think it’s probably a non-story to generate some interest for the two races.
It’s a bit like me announcing that I’ve decided not to run for FIA President this year. It was never going to happen anyway, but […]

Jonathan, that procedure was changed 16 years ago. Since the 2005 season the original start is no longer deemed null and void and the race clock does not stop. A red flag in the first two laps is now treated just […]

It’s possible that this will end up in a situation like with Michael Schumacher at Ferrari in 2006. Back then Ferrari knew that Schumacher was nearer the end of his career than the beginning and signed the […]

Actually my maths is wrong for 2012 as we’d have to also restore Hulkenberg to the podium. That would leave:
1. Vettel on 267 points (4 wins)
2. Alonso on 266 points (3 wins)
3. Hamilton on 265 points (7 wins) - Load More
