I must say, I am finding it nigh on unfaultable. Will is not only a great guy (had a lovely chat with him at Monza last year) but a plainly gifted writer.
WilliamB commented on the post, F1 introduces new 'grid kids' scheme to replace grid girls 4 years, 6 months ago
Perhaps they should have announced this at the same time as the removal of grid girls rather than allowing the mindless vacuum of thinly-veiled sexism to turn stale…
WilliamB commented on the post, Controversial start to new Formula E season 4 years, 8 months ago
My biggest problem with Formula E is the whole inelegance of the thing. Maybe if the series didn’t spend the whole weekend going on about how cool it is, maybe it actually would be quite cool. As it is, it feels […]
WilliamB commented on the post, Todt unmoved by calls for louder engines 5 years ago
Whilst this is nothing new, Todt’s unique talent for looking out of his depth continues to astound.
As I speak two major FIA series are on the cusp of a terminal crisis: the WEC and the WTCC. In both cases the […]

WilliamB commented on the post, Vettel must cut out the temper tantrums 5 years, 1 month ago
I think we have long observed that Vettel has rather cumulative emotions. When things are going well, such his nine race winning roll in 2013, he teams his affable off-track persona with a devastating performance […]
WilliamB commented on the post, Was Vettel's 'dangerous driving' penalty correct? 5 years, 1 month ago
@mazdachris I agree, and whilst it’s an immensely damaging conclusion to draw, I think it’s likely that the championship ramifications had an effect on the decision not to disqualify Vettel. That is an inherently […]
WilliamB commented on the post, Hamilton's IndyCar comments attract further criticism 5 years, 2 months ago
@robbie I think it’s important to make the distinction between saying “anyone can do it” and saying “any racing driver can do it”. If you are accustomed to chasing every last morsel of performance from a car, if […]
WilliamB commented on the post, Hamilton's IndyCar comments attract further criticism 5 years, 2 months ago
If you could criticise Hamilton’s comments for anything it is that they are a bit tautological. Of course Alonso outclassed his Indy 500 opponents: he is arguably the most complete, capable and formidable racing […]

Someone needs to tell the Daily Mail, they would love this…
WilliamB commented on the post, Beginners' luck? Liberty Media's 100-day honeymoon 5 years, 3 months ago
Not beginner’s luck, no, just indicative of the easy wins that can result from a paddock starved of common sense. Carey’s assurances on European stalwart Grands Prix, Bratches’ liberalization of social media […]

What I love about how Valtteri reacted to what was undeniably the high watermark of his career to date, is that it was understated beyond even Finnish convention. Underpinning that moment was a starkly vivid […]

WilliamB commented on the post, Stroll admits Q3 place was possible 5 years, 3 months ago
He is still driving the FW40 like a F3 car – jabbing at the steering and pedals, feeling that he needs to induce grip into the front end and destabilising the aero platform. But is it surprising? Five months ago […]

@bascb I fully agree
WilliamB commented on the post, The Bull that cried wolf: Red Bull threaten to quit F1 again 5 years, 3 months ago
It’s their favourite trick, their signature dish: idyll threats served cold. It is also why the team with unquestionably the most engaging and exciting driver line-up persists to have a rather contrived and […]

@bascb make something out of his life
I’m sorry, and I would add that I normally have the utmost respect for your remarks, but I think that’s a rather crass way of terming it. Yes, he has life-changing […]
WilliamB commented on the post, Crowdfund for injured F4 driver Billy Monger raises double its target 5 years, 3 months ago
I am truly proud, not only of the headline donators in Jenson Button and Max Verstappen, but of each and every donation and the warmth and solidarity of the motorsport community as a whole. A family who scrimped, […]
WilliamB commented on the post, Alonso's shock IndyCar move is good news for (almost) everyone 5 years, 4 months ago
I very much enjoy watching IndyCar, and I would be overjoyed if Alonso could figurehead a resurgence for the series, and a whispered link-up with F1 could be a great foothold in the American market. But for me, […]
WilliamB commented on the post, Turkish Grand Prix to return? Carey meets Turkish president Erdogan 5 years, 4 months ago
@montreal95 – I know this is an F1 blog, but I think you deserve a proper explanation. I think most people who have paid any kind of attention to world politics in the past six months would agree that both Erdogan […]
