The Caparo T1 two-seater has officially gone into production. The road car boasts F1-like performance – here are the vital stats:
- Engine: 3.5-litre Caparo V8
- Power: 575bhp (425kW) at 10,500rpm and 420Nm (310lbft) at 9,000rpm
- Weight: 550kg
- Power-to-weight ratio: 1,045bhp-per-tonne
- 0-60mph: 2.5s (estimated)
- Price: ?âÔÇÜ?é?ú190,000
It promises to be the closest you can get to an F1 experience in a road car. And it’s bad news for Volkswagen, makers of the Bugatti Veyron, which sells for over ?âÔÇÜ?é?ú800,000 and could be about to great thrashed by a car costing less than a quarter of that.
Its has a carbon/aluminium honeycomb monocoque with a separate crash structure at the front and the rear sub-frame includes aerospace grade steel. Gordon Murray, regarded as one of F1’s greatest designers, had a hand in the project, along with several men who worked on the McLaren F1 road car.
The Caparo T1 will make its first public appearance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed on 22nd-24th June.

Wow – that looks like one cool road car. I wonder how many points on licenses it will be (unintentionally) responsible for causing? ;-)

It is the king of the road until it meets it’s natural enemy – the speed bump.
