Chinese Grand Prix weather forecast

The Chinese Grand Prix weekend is expected to be dry at the moment. However some forecasts are indicating a slight chance of rain on Sunday.

The earlier appearance of the Chinese Grand Prix on this year’s calendar has increased the likelihood of rain this weekend. Two separate forecasts point to a 30% chance of rain on Sunday.

Of course, that 30% figure relates to the whole of Sunday, and we are only interested in the period when the race is on, further reducing the prospect of a rain-affected race.

If we do get rain this weekend, here’s a satellite map of the area to keep an eye on.

Aside from that the weekend is expected to be dry and cool, with air temperatures in the 15-18C range.

If you’ve got any links to reliable Chinese Grand Prix weather forecasts, please post them below. And if you’re in the area, let us know what you expect from the weather this weekend.

  1. Awesome!
Glad to hear the good news!

  2. I hope it rains. Webber & Vettel should be up the front

  3. I’m not sure how reliable WindGURU is (it depends to some extent on the reliability of the individual sources used by its contributors) but it’s saying the only rain in Shanghai during the F1 weekend is on Saturday evening, possibly into the early hours of Sunday morning. Since the Chinese Grand Prix is supposed to be a day race, rain is a possibility that need not vex the F1 people if this report is accurate.

  4. yes, i agree with dane

  5. I’m with Dane too…Webber and Vettel deserve to fight at the front. Being in ‘non-diffuser’ cars, and clearly in a car that works really well in the wet, the ven playing field it might just provide could make it a ‘fair’ race, regardless of the outcome of the FIA hearing today…

i just want a normal sane race for once! (as much as i love the insanity that has prevailed at the start of 2009 and end of 2008) so no rain!

  7. I use yahoo widgets which is not too bad for weather predictions…

I agree with Dane aswell good to finally see people who give Vettel & Webber a chance in Malaysia those 2 in the wet were flying and if Mark was on the inters at the same time as Glock he surely would’ve won because that RedBull was miles faster than the rest

  9. But that’s just it. Webber and Vettel haven’t quite made it yet.

I’d be happy as anyone to see ’em scrapping in front in damp conditions but how are such conditions any kind of guarantee that they will be. I wouldn’t be shocked if those two were to take each other out in such a scenario.

A damp quali from start to finish would be an interesting twist.

My money’s on Lewis in the damp…

  10. I hope it doesn’t rain, I’ll be there in an uncovered stand!!

  11. The BBC website says heavy rain for Sunday!!
