Can you predict the top five finishers and the pole sitter in this year’s British Grand Prix?

We’ve got tickets to next year’s British Grand Prix to be won as the grand prize in this year’s Predictions Championship.

Enter your predictions now below.

The earlier problem with the prediction form has been fixed

The prizes

This year we’re giving away a pair of prizes every race weekend.

On top of that at the end of the year the top 12 finishers all get prizes – and whoever scores the highest overall will be going to the 2011 British Grand Prix. Here are the prizes in full:

Grand prize: Two grandstands tickets to the 2011 British Grand Prix

The person who scores the most points in the 2010 F1 Fanatic Predictions Championship will win grandstand tickets to the 2011 British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

This is the first time we’ve offered F1 race tickets as a prize at F1 Fanatic and I hope you all agree it’s a fitting reward for the F1 expert who can best predict who will be on top in 2010.

The grand prize winner will receive tickets to all three days of the 2011 British Grand Prix with reserved grandstand seating for the race.

Second place prize: An F1 painting of your choice

The second place finisher in the championship will win an F1 painting by Rob Ijbema.

You get to choose which F1 driver, present or past, will feature in the painting. Or you can pick one of the other motor racing paintings on Rob’s site Car-a-day.

Runners-up prizes: Autocourse 2010-2011

The ten players who finish in third to 12th positions in the championship will win a copy of the 2010-2011 edition of Autocourse.

The highly respected journal of Formula 1 and other major international four-wheeled racing series is published at the end of every season.

This year the publication marks its 60th anniversary edition.

Race winners prize: The Lotus Story DVD Box Set

Duke Video are supplying the prize for the player who gets the highest score in each round.

With the Lotus name returning to F1 in 2010 what better prize than a DVD box set showing the history of this great team. This four-disc set “The Lotus Story” chronicles Lotus’s participation in F1 from the company’s beginning in 1948 up to its F1 withdrawal in 1994. (Please note this DVD is in PAL format).

Duke are also offering a special promotion exclusive to all F1 Fanatic readers – whenever you order from them you can get 15% off using the promotional code F1Fanatic at the checkout.

Race runners-up prize: F1 race winner print

The second place finisher in each race will win a 40x35cm print of the race winner

This prize is supplied by Motorsport in Print.

How to enter

Entries will open in the week before every race. You have until the start of free practice three on Saturday to make your predictions.

You can post your predictions for the first race now below or wait until nearer the deadline. A reminder will be posted on the site after free practice two on Friday.

Each player may predict the pole sitter, the pole position lap time and the top five finishers in the race. See below for the rules in full.

Enter your pole position lap time prediction in the following format: MM:SS.ccc – e.g. for a lap of one minute, 25.386 seconds enter 01:25.386

Please try to pick an original and distinctive user name – something a bit more descriptive than just a first name and use the same name for every race you enter.

  1. When I enter my prediction I used to get a list of everyone who had already entered but now that no longer comes up. Is this meant to happen or is it not working for me?

I don’t think the page is calling itself correctly on Submit. There should be hidden value on the form page that allows the page to call itself again, recognise the value and then display something like “Thanks for your predictions . . ” plus the predictions so far. But it looks as though the form page isn’t rolling through with hidden value, info isn’t being recorded and so the page represents itself as though it’s your first visit.

  8. Hey Keith,
There was no kind of acknowledgment that my submission was accepted. Are we getting our predictions in?

  13. Nope, didn’t come up with entries for me either.

    1. I’ve now submitted through the feedback form. The normal entry page just doesn’t seem to be working.

  14. I’m looking into why some of you have had difficulty making your predictions. It seems to be working for some but not others.

If you’re concerned your prediction has not been received please send it in via the contact form as described in the rules:

Please do not post predictions in the comments.

    1. had problem with the form , hence sent predictions by contact.

    2. I sent my predictions via the contact form.

    3. is this problem going to give you more trouble? i dont know how many predictions you ve got to process but if the system isnt automatic if it is too much trouble i wouldn mind not to have this weekend this game

    4. The problem appears to have been solved.

Many thanks to Ian, who wrote the code which runs the predictions, who noticed a problem which had arisen as a result of the recent design changes.

I’ve submitted a test prediction which has worked. If you have any further problems please let me know.

If you have already sent your prediction via email you may resubmit them using the form if you wish.

      Apologies for the inconvenience everyone.

      1. Since posting this about a dozen predictions have been posted within a few minutes so it looks like it’s working again now.

  15. Same here, sent the predictions again via contact form just to be sure.

  16. i’ve done the predictions via the contact sheet too. I wonder if the problem with the predictions submission is connected to the site update.

I know it’s pretty petty but i hope you get my prediction so i have a chance of staying up the top of the list.

    It’s fun doing the predictions.

  17. The page doesn’t load correctly prior to submitting my prediction – error from IE8 below, although it won’t accept my prediction in chrome or firefox 3.0 either.

When I make my prediction, I get the same error except my prediction is tagged onto the end of the URI as variables. End result is I can’t submit so will use the contact form.

    Webpage error details

User Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Windows NT 5.1; Trident/4.0; .NET CLR 2.0.50727)
    Timestamp: Fri, 9 Jul 2010 19:13:21 UTC

    Message: Object expected
    Line: 830
    Char: 1
    Code: 0

I also found the following error 4 times in the chrome developer tools console

“Unable to post message to Recipient has origin”

  18. I must be stupid with the prediction I’ve done. The entire time I thought ‘no don’t be daft’ . If only I had an ocotpus with me

Ditto, Steph, an octopus called Paul would be nice!

P.S. Have sent my predictions in via contact form as well.

  19. just cause the system isnt working:

    Pole: Vettel
    Pole Time: 1:30.123
    1. Hamilton
    2. Button
    3. Vettel
    4. Alonso
    5. Webber

    1. Keith asked NOT to post your predictions in comments.

  20. thanks Keith and Ian for fisixing the problem

  21. Jon Fitzgibbons
    10th July 2010, 0:51

NOOOOOO, I can’t select Yamamoto for the pole position!!! (This is sarcastic, if you hadn’t guessed).

  22. No surprises this weekend. Red Bulls, McLarens and Alonso in the Top-5.

  23. looks like some people were looking at last year’s fast lap to come up with their pole times. They say the new section adds over ten seconds to the lap time. Also the way that Mercedes ran today in P2, maybe they fixed their low fuel/fresh tire problem?

  24. My prediction is very much not how I want the race to turn out (eg. I don’t have Button featuring anywhere) but I’m choosing to play the old reverse psychology angle.

  25. Hi,

How come we can’t choose Sakon Yamamoto for P1, and not even in the first 5th for the race! How can we get a full score, then?

    1. Because the competition was opened before HRT changed their driver line-up.

  26. Thanks for fixing the form mate, predictions posted, hopefully this will be a good round just enough to keep me in top 10 ;)

  27. Keith, how come we can’t see your predictions mate? we could last year if I remember correctly

  28. I couldn’t submit my predictions last night so I did it via the contact form and I wasn’t online when it started working again, hope they’re not forgotten :o

I can see the list now and they are not there, hopefully Keith will enter them after the weekend.

    1. Mike "the bike" Schumacher
      10th July 2010, 11:03

Same thing for me, entered my predictions through contact form but cant see them on the list.
I hope to god you’ve entered them keith i’m doing well at the moment.

      1. Yep, same with me

  29. woah.. so many ppl still having faith in schumacher

  30. it wasn’t working for me yesterday so now my prediction isn’t in then? :(

  31. SimonF1 gratulation 1:29.615 Vettel :) NICE!

  32. prediction:
    1st: Hamilton (qualified 4th)
    2nd: webber (qualified 2nd
    3rd: vettel (qualified pole)
    4th: alonso (qualified 3rd)

Correct people wrong order… if i could predict agian id say:
    1st: Vettel
    2nd: Hamilton
    4th alonso
    …let the race begin :)

  33. where is my prediction? i used the form and it worked as always… but i’m not there!
