Sergio Perez says he is concerned how competitive Racing Point will be in the Monaco Grand Prix after their uncompetitive showing at the previous race, where they introduced a new upgrade.

“We are a bit worried,” Perez told media including RaceFans in Monaco today. “I think our form in Spain was very bad. A lot worse than expected.”

He said the team is hoping a change of track this weekend turns their fortunes around.

“We hope that it’s just track-related and we just struggled in Spain as we were kind of expecting it to be. I hope that coming here we can be competitive and back to our usual level.

“I think all season we’ve been struggling for pace. But I hope this weekend can be a good one for us where we can score plenty of points.”

The team hasn’t got to the bottom of the trouble it experienced at the Circuit de Catalunya after introducing its new upgrade package, Perez admitted.

“Not at the moment. We’re still analysing a few bits but we don’t have a specific answer for our poor performance there.”

Perez said the team expected its upgrade package would improve their form in Spain, where they had their first point-less race of the season. “Hopefully tomorrow we can find a bit of pace and be competitive,” he added.

  1. On a slightly different note, it was the a very bad Spanish GP indeed.
Just took a look at the recent Rate the Race article and the aggregate rating for this year’s spanish GP is 4.54 !!
That is the 8th worst rating a race has received on this site.

Here is the yet to be updated list–>

      Pjotr, use your brain.

If the solution were that simple we would have an spectacular fight for the first place between 20 drivers each race.

You only need the first sentence. He’ll never understand the explanation… ;-)

  3. I would like to see Perez in a car with which he can compete, he has the talent and the experience for this in a team that can fight championships, Checo would give a good fight.
