By the looks of it, my list keeps changing year by year. I guess memory plays a role in the outcome, but I tried using to old list to help me acknowledge drivers past form. Oddly, this is my first list with Massa.

    1. Fernando Alonso
    2. Sebastian Vettel
    3. Michael Schumacher
    4. Lewis Hamilton
    5. Kimi Raikkonen
    6. Robert Kubica
    7. Mika Hakkinen
    8. Felipe Massa
    9. Jenson Button
    10. Nico Rosberg

    7. Button
    8. Webber

    10. Barrichello

I rate Schumacher higher than Vettel, but since this is a list about 21st century and Schumacher’s seasons from 1991 to 1999 are thus excluded, Vettel wins slightly. For the same reason Häkkinen isn’t included in this list – his 2000 and 2001 seasons weren’t in my opinion impressive enough for that.

Here’s the standings after 28 votes. As this was the exact number of votes we got in 2010, I’ll also put in a comparison of their points loss/gain between then and now.

    2. Alonso – 519 (9 1st’s) (0, +3 1st’s)
    3. Vettel – 483 (4 1st’s) (+285, +4 1st’s)
    4. Hamilton – 319 (-83, -2 1st’s)
    5. Raikkonen – 309 (-1)
    6. Button – 142 (+32)
    7. Massa – 106 (+13)
    8. Hakkinen – 87 (-74)
    9. Montoya – 80 (-80)
    10. Barrichello – 51 (-12)
    11. Webber – 41 (-12)
    12. Rosberg – 33 (+15)
    13. Kubica – 28 (-52)
    14. Coulthard – 14 (-12)
    15. R Schumacher – 10 (+9)

Gone quiet for a while here, so will bump this up. :)

Random thought: There are a few absentees from this year’s list so far – Giancarlo Fisichella, Heikki Kovalainen, and Jacques Villeneuve. The former two, in particular, won races this century. Have they really fallen out of favor with you? :)

Fisi never really lived up to his potential, he finally got his big break with Renault and just never cut the mustard. (I also never give him credit for the win in Brazil 2003, without Webber’s accident the race was going to be comfortably won by DC who made his scheduled stop a few laps before the crash, handing the lead and then the win to Raikkonen and Fisi. ;)) Kovalainen likewise, his two seasons at McLaren were a big disappointment no matter how many times the team said “fuel adjusted, Heikki was as quick as Lewis”. Villeneuve…all he managed in the 2000’s were 2 podiums and 2 sackings…so he shouldn’t be in the top 10.

I think if the list went deeper than 10 then perhaps they would have some votes. Fisi and JV I think had their peaks before 2000, and Kovalainen has been unlucky with circumstances (Lewis’ number 2 at McLaren) and cars (Caterham), giving him one good season where he beat Fisichella at Renault in 2007.
