Colton Herta debuts in Indycar ladder (USF2000) at 14

Herta, who celebrated his 14th birthday March 30, won the Pacific F1600 [Formula Ford] Championship in 2013 and was the runner-up in the Skip Barber Summer Series. He’s the eldest child of Verizon IndyCar Series team owner and former racer Bryan Herta.
I’ll be following his progress with interest, so far he’s shown well in testing.

Herta drove in the Formula BMW Asiacup series this weekend at Sepang and won a race and finished on the podium in two more. It’s really impressive, given that Aussie Jake Parsons has won 7 of the 8 races in the series this year, and Herta is four years younger than Parsons.
In an intriguing development, Jake Parsons and Colton Herta will test for Cape Motorsports’ USF2000 team.
Parsons is considering a move to the Indycar ladder:
“I have tested previously with Cape in F1600 about two years ago now. It was one of my first drives in a racecar, and I set quick times, so it will be good to see them again. I’m in the F2000 for half a day, and then switch over to the Pro Mazda for the second half, get the feel for the two, and give me a good idea of where the categories are at, and what I want to do for next year.”
“Racing in America definitely interests me, it would be an exciting place to go and race. There and Europe are probably the two top places.”
