How is the blunt face of that round ‘handle’ at the top of the end plate aerodynamic?
It looks like they discovered the wing wouldn’t fit in the box so they sawed the nice swoopy round leading edges off.
It is similar to when Mansell returned to F1 in 1995…
Mansell was still a big draw at the time. He put more fans in the seats by being there (and more money in the promoter’s pockets). His legacy […]
Clay commented on the post, McLaren SP's Mid-Ohio was grim but it paled next to Andretti's horror show 5 months ago
About cars passing on the outside, there’s very good reasons why there’s no rubber out there, as it’s not the normal racing line, it’s no mans land (it’s slippery and slower)…
The outside pass is o […]

Drivers already have accelerometers in their ears.
Doesn’t show what their butt is doing though it will record their head banging.

Clay commented on the post, Early slick tyre call set up Indy GP victory – Herta 6 months, 3 weeks ago
It surprises me driving slicks on a wet track.
Obviously those super picky F1 tires (er, excuse me… tyres) are temp critical, so that could be a challenge.
The SM6’s we run aren’t nearly so sensitive. I once […]

sillydog for the win!
Shirley some teams will flounder.
Lewis was faster in every sector in Brazil during sprint and the race, even the twisty middle sector which is all about downforce. That he was able to follow Max so closely through there was amazing, and that has […]
Clay commented on the post, FIA begins investigation into Abu Dhabi restart controversy 10 months, 3 weeks ago
I have a vague memory of an open wheel series, might have been Indy.
Had something to do with the area at the rear of the car where they stuffed the starter through to fire up the motor.
I too, wondered why race control dallied for several laps before changing their minds.
Could be that lapped cars can not be sent around until the track is clear and workers/equipment are out of the […]
Clay commented on the post, Mercedes have "good legal basis" for appeal over Abu Dhabi GP – lawyer 11 months, 3 weeks ago
Does ‘can’ also mean ‘must’ in UK based contracts?
(No dog in this fight… just having some fun with words.)
Will participation be mandatory in your scenario?
With no ‘real’ points involved, I could see some teams electing to save wear and tear by sitting it out or start and park.
We could really spice up […]
Clay commented on the post, "Unique" Miami F1 track will be more than just a race in a car park – Masi 1 year, 1 month ago
Caesars wasn’t all bad.
What other course can one see the entire course (tops of the helmets, anyway) from all the grandstands?
What other track can a driver hose one set of turns and have a chance to do […]
Clay commented on the post, F1 race start times could be brought forward to avoid Spa-style wash-outs 1 year, 2 months ago
The 2012 Daytona 500 was washed out on that Sunday and Monday afternoon didn’t look so good weather wise and they were able to negotiate with FOX and they had it Monday evening.
iirc, that turned out to be a r […]

Came to me right away you were going on about tires (tyres?) failing ala F1 Indy.
CART attempted to run the Firestone Firehawk 600k at Texas Motor Speedway back in 2001.
The race […]
Clay commented on the post, Grosjean looking forward to being 'a proper rookie' in IndyCar oval debut 1 year, 3 months ago
No doubt he’s referring to how the (properly set up) oval car handles.
The stagger allows the driver to just relax the steering wheel and the car turns in to the corner.
Opposite to a road car, where […]
Clay commented on the post, "Bendy" rear wings which caught Hamilton's eye to face tougher FIA tests 1 year, 6 months ago
If the entire chassis is changing pitch, the camera would pitch right along with it.
Everything mounted to the chassis would stay in the same relative vertical position to the camera.
Only the horizon and the […]
