Yes, the people who were irritated the first time it became clear his championship was not won in accordance with the laws of the sport, will probably be equally as irritated the second time it became clear his […]

@tricky go back and watch the live timing if you have the ability to. Hamiltons lap times on mediums suggest otherwise.

@afonic it came from comparing lewis’ pace to that of George and the Red Bulls, during the middle 2 stints of the race, when the red bulls were very much still pushing. Hamilton was just as quick if not quicker.

It seems I’m the only one who wasn’t all that impressed by Russell’s performance. Look at Hamilton’s pace, and it’s clear Russell should have won the race.

@spoutnik I’m referring to the stint where, had Russell been 1-2 seconds quicker, Verstappen would have come out behind him, so he had a race win gain.

I’m not joking. He was slower than Hamilton in clean air on a set of tyres 10 laps newer. The car had the pace to win and he came 3rd.

Also unsure how it could be Russell, given he was in a car that his teammate proved had the pace to win, but was some half a minute slower over the course of lap 2-63.

Between Hamilton and Leclerc. Maybe leclerc because Hamilton was outqualified by teammate, but his race pace was incredible so hard to say.
Not sure how Verstappen is getting votes but hey ho.

@robbie agree there is always that element of unknown until they are in that exact position. For me, as someone who has followed leclerc closely from GP3, all through F1, I think I have seen all the qualities that […]

@robbie that seems fair….as long of course as you were saying Verstappen couldn’t be put to the same level as Lewis until the last races of last year? ; )

@matthijs 100% agree. He appeared to fall down the order in the minds of many last year due to being “beaten” by Sainz, but when you dig into the data, it was always clear he was in that step above.

@matthijs agreed. I think Leclerc was actually the better of the two in the wheel to wheel battle, but ultimately the Red Bull, with it’s incredible straight line speed and the lack of tyre wear on the hard tyre, […]

@mosquito one of the toughest in a while! But I would disagree that the Ferrari and Red Bull were comparable. It looked to me that, especially once they were on the practically non-deg hard tyres, the Red Bull was […]

I think the Red Bull was the better overall package this weekend, due to their decision on low downforce set up (maybe they learned from last year when they went for the high downforce approach and realised you […]

@robbie remember that engine modes are set pre-quali, so it’s not that they could have turned the engine up mid race to move clear of / pass verstappen. They would have set a level they were willing to run at pre […]

I suspect as we head into the new season, with the immediate overflow of emotions having faded, we will hear a lot more from the drivers condemning the events of AD, without fear of backlash. Nice to hear both […]

If you rewatch the race, on lap 56 when the cars pass the incident, there are still multiple marshalls standing trackside, and not at their correct posts. This renders this hypothetical timeline I have seen banded […]

Indeed. Unfortunately a very long and detailed piece, that’s based entirely on a fundamentally wrong reading of the rules.
