Ben Hanley, Hungaroring, World Series by Renault, 2007 | Renault mediaSpa-Francorchamps has acted to solve some of the problems caused by its recent renovation – this weekend’s World Series by Renault round should reveal how successful they’ve been.

The British F3 drivers were cutting the track at various places – can these faster, lower, more F1-like cars get away with doing the same? And how will Sebastian Vettel’s replacement get on?

Plus battle resumes in this year’s engrossing British Touring Car Championship.

World Series by Renault, Spa-Francorchamps

The ‘other GP2’ heads to one of Europe’s top racing circuits in a peculiar situation: championship leader Sebastian Vettel has quit the series after seven of 17 rounds having moved up to F1.

In his place comes German Michael Ammermuller who had a poor, injury-hit half-season in GP2. He badly needs to get his career back on track, and Carlon are definitely the team to do it with.

Alvaro Parente is 23 points behind the absent Vettel but the battle behind him is tight: Filipe Albuquerque, Benjamin Hanley and Milos Pavlovic are all within ten points of him. Spa could give the first hints of a new pecking order.

Nine races left in the British Touring Car Championship and the title battle is hotter than ever as Jason Plato and Fabrizio Giovanardi traded paint (and then some) last time out at Snetterton.

Plato may be fighting a rearguard action to protect his championship lead but the Leon was swift around here at the start of the season and he won two races. He desperately needs to recapture that form if he wants to win a second title.

But with ballast holding the championship leaders back look to regular front-runners Colin Turkington (stripped of a win by the Snetterton stewards) and Team Halford duo Matt Neal and Gordon Sheddon to be fighting for wins.

    1. V8 Supercars at Oran Park in Sydney, Aus!

    2. Actually I might take a peek at that – isn’t Oran Park the one that has a crossover like Suzuka?

    3. yer it sure does!
