Marussia have confirmed they will use Ferrari engines as of next year.
Ferrari will supply a full powertrain under the new regulations for 2014 including a V6 turbo engine, Energy Recovery System and transmission.
“The importance of this development to our team cannot be overstated,” said CEO Andy Webb.
Marussia is still without a commercial deal with Formula One Management. Webb said the new deal shows they are serious about competing in F1:
“Not only will we benefit from a customer supply from the most successful engine manufacturer in Formula One?óÔé¼Ôäós history, but this also provides further confirmation, if it were needed, of our commitment to the sport and determination to maintain our progression towards our long-term ambitions.”
Marussia has used Cosworth power since entering Formula One in 2010 as Virgin.
“We would also like to take this opportunity to thank Cosworth, with whom we have partnered since our debut season in 2010,” added Webb.
“We have shared an important part of our team?óÔé¼Ôäós journey together and Cosworth have been an integral part of our clear progression. We will continue to work together during the latter half of the season to ensure we all achieve our combined objectives before Cosworth leave the sport.?óÔé¼?Ø

Mildly surprising to me considering Cosworth provides the engines for Marussia road cars.
Also with this there are no Cosworth powered cars on the grid.

Surprising? Cosworth chose not to develop an engine for the new formula quite a long time ago. So the switch is madatory bcs cosworth don’t have an engine

Cosworth said they didn’t want to have to build the engines for 2014 season onwards anyway.

I wasn’t aware there was such thing as a Marussia road car, I thought they were still vapourware.

Cosworth doesn’t want to develop a turbo engine because it would be too costly. Let alone develop a KERS unit to go along with it. Thank you Jean Todt for forcing Cosworth and innumerable fans out of the sport in 2014, really appreciate it.

Now having Bianchi at Marussia makes sense for Ferrari, as they have links with the team, although little will change from the driver’s persperctive. Hopefully Marussia can make a further step forward!
