Ferrari’s former chief designer Simone Resta will return to work for the team at the beginning of November, RaceFans has learned.

A team spokesperson confirmed the 48-year-old will return to the team as the head of the chassis department. He will begin work at the Gestione Sportiva on November 1st once he has completed a period of gardening leave.

Resta entered F1 with Minardi in 1998 and joined Ferrari in 2001. He took on the role of chief designer at the end of 2014 at which time he reported to James Allison, who is now at Mercedes.

Resta had risen to the role of head of vehicle project co-ordinator by the time he left Ferrari last year to join Sauber as technical director. However earlier this year the team, now called Alfa Romeo, announced Resta would be leaving the role after just 13 months. They have replaced him with their current technical director Jan Monchaux.

Ferrari’s technical department will be bolstered by the return of Resta. Their current team principal Mattia Binotto was promoted to the position from that side of the opreation, having been the team’s chief technical officer, and his responsibilities have been divided between the two areas.

  1. Is the B-team Sauber, a subsidary funded by Alfa Romeo, messing around with the A-team Ferrari, delivering the essentials to them?!? Gardening leave? C’mon…

    1. I guess the gardening leave was with some Case New Holland heavy equipment at Juventus Stadium ;)
