Formula 3 cars will return to the prestigious Macau Grand Prix for the first time since 2019, the FIA has confirmed.
The November event will be sanctioned by the FIA but not form part of its Formula 3 championship, which concludes at Monza in September. The race will return as part of a three-year deal between the FIA, the Automobile General Association Macao-China and the Macau Grand Prix Organising Committee.
The celebrated race has been won by a roster of future Formula 1 stars over the years including Ayrton Senna in 1983 and Michael Schumacher in 1990.
The last race run to F3 rules in 2019 was contested by current F1 racers Yuki Tsunoda and Logan Sargeant. The latter placed third behind winner Richard Verschoor and Juri Vips.
The Macau Grand Prix continued during the pandemic but the Chinese F4 series replaced F3 on the roster. F3 will return to its traditional format including a pair of races of 10 and 15 laps’ distance respectively.
“We are all very pleased to see the return of the FIA Formula 3 World Cup in Macau,” said the FIA’s single-seater director Nikolas Tombazis. “The history of Macau and Formula 3 is one of the most renowned stories in motor sport and the event has long been the highlight of the junior single-seater calendar.”
The co-ordinator of the Macau Grand Prix Organising Committee, Pun Weng Kun, said they “look forward to continuing working with the FIA in finalising the details of the return of the events, and to welcoming elite drivers to compete on our world-renowned Guia Circuit.”
This year’s Macau Grand Prix will take place over two weekends, with the F3 running scheduled for November 16th to 19th.

I was lucky enough to attend and see Mike Conway win and Adrian Sutil making eye-catching progress up to third one year. Truly great racing on a track that really challenges the drivers. Great to see F3 back here.
