Alfa Romeo continued using their V12 engine in 1982 even as several rival manufacturers switched to turbo eninges.
Andrea de Cesaris put the car on pole position at Long Beach and led until being pressured into a mistake by Niki Lauda.
De Cesaris gave the car its best result in Monaco, third place, despite running out of fuel on the penultimate lap.
