I found it rather amusing that in a USA Today poll to find NASCAR’s best track it wasn’t one of the series’ 21 ovals which won but one of its two road courses – former United States Grand Prix venue Watkins Glen:

The top ten is as follows:

I know the dust has only just settled on 2017 but I’m already thinking about Silverstone 2018! This would be my first GP (apart from Friday Practice at Silverstone in 2003) although I’ve been to Silverstone a few times in past years as I only live 15 miles away. Due to my proximity, and in an attempt to avoid parking charges and the inevitable…[Read more]

After Valtteri Bottas’s near-jump-start last weekend I wondered if we could drum up a few examples of particularly impressive real jump starts.
The best I could come up with was this fine example by Max Chilton when he started the 2009 British F3 championship from pole position at Oulton Park:
Any more good ones?

In the predictions contest is the “pole sitter” the person with the fastest time in Q3 or the person on the pole at race start? This is obviously being asked in light of Hamilton’s penalty in Austria. If Hamilton has the fastest time in Q3 but starts P6, is he considered the “pole sitter” for the contest?
I looked at the contest rules but could…[Read more]

A simple question: Which driver who hasn’t started an F1 race do you think will be among the next to do so – and why?

Noel Wilson used to teach people how to drive racing cars. In 2013 he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, so now he’s on a mission to lap every circuit in Britain on his 8mph motor scooter:
He’s already done Rockingham (oval and sports car course), Silverstone and – get this all 37.7 miles of the Isle of Man TT mountain course!

The title sounds a little more harsh than I was hoping for, but last weekend’s GP illustrates to me one of the reasons that Hulkenberg has never stood on a podium.
In and around his level on the grid there are numerous drivers who have sprayed the champagne: Magnussen, Grosjean, Bottas, Stroll and Perez, the latter even doing so several times…[Read more]

I’ve seen this in a few places today described as being telemetry from the collision between Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel during their collision in the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. It’s actually produced using the speed data from the official Formula One app, so it doesn’t show things like accelerator and brake inputs. However it does illustrate…[Read more]

Hello all!
Looking to obtain one of these:
I saw them being sold by merchants at the Canadian Grand Prix, but forgot to pick one up. I figured I’d find them being sold online someplace, but that’s not the case. Anyone got a spare kicking about they’d be willing to sell on to me?
Cheers :)

Incredible domination by Penske in qualifying at Road America – they’ve locked out the top four places and their closest rival is 1.6 seconds off their best:

2. Will Power, Penske – 1’41.3611
3. Josef Newgarden, Penske – 1’41.6608

Yes, I enjoyed the pit walk. It was much busier this year than last though. Last year we wandered between garages freely with nobody to block photo opportunities etc.
You shouldn’t need to use the metro, everything is very close and there are a few ways to cross over or under the track.

Thanks! :)

HI Edward, thanks for the advice. I’m just back from the pit walk and took my life in my hands crossing some of the roads. I’m going to the itcheri sheyher stand tomorrow so I will have to learn to use the metro. The track walk was really good it’s a shame that only a few circuits facilitate them.
