Kubica eager to start “really working” on new Williams

Robert Kubica says he is eager to begin work on developing the new Williams having spent most of his penultimate day of testing on data gathering.

Kubica had his first full day in the FW42, which arrived late at testing last week. “Unfortunately we are running a bit late with our test programme because of last week’s issue,” he said after completing 130 laps on Wednesday.

“So it’s a bit of mixed feelings because from one point it has been positive that we did a lot of laps. From the other side it is also true [there is] not a lot of time [until] we are going to race. We are not in the position we would like to be, especially from my side, from I think an engineering point of view also.

“We are doing a lot of gathering data stuff, checking different stuff but not really working on the car. I hope the next few days we will have a bit of time to start playing with the car and see how the car reacts to different things.”

Kubica only has one day left in the car on Friday before the first race of the year.

“In the end there are some priorities and of course going to Australia without a lot of testing is not helping but I have to make sure I maximise my time in the car,” he said.

“The test what we are doing in the last day [is] in order to have better feeling and better knowledge about the car.”

  1. Did Russell have the BBQ racks attached to his car yesterday or was it just a lucky Robert exclusive?

    1. They ran very similar programs. For their only semi fast runs, kubica did 1.19.3, while Russel 1.19.6, I hope for the last 2 days they do setup and let the drivers explore the cars speed, and I hope the car actually has some speed. So far they look slow on fastest tyres and slow on slow tyres, though consistent. Kubica was doing very consistent 1.24s on 10 lap runs yesterday.

  2. Unfortunately they will not be quite ready for Australia.

  3. Still can’t believe Kubica is back in an F1 car! Incredible story, I wish for his last day to go perfectly and that he gets very comfortable with the car.

    1. @skipgamer agree, this story is really wholesome

  4. + 1
@Somewhat related, good news about Sophia.(Spiegel Online)
“For March 6, the first test drives in Monza, Italy are planned, Flörsch will then go back to the racing team Van Amersfoort Racing.
Now if we could just see Robert Wickens in a car before the year’s done…

    1. I am still completely astounded that Sophia Flörsch survived and is going racing again after that horrific incident. I am so happy for her. One of the most frightening things I’ve seen in racing.
