Toro Rosso’s change of names to Alpha Tauri for the 2020 F1 season has been confirmed.

RaceFans revealed in September the plan for Red Bull’s junior team to change its name from Toro Rosso, the Italian for ‘Red Bull’, to Alpha Tauri, the name of a Red Bull fashion label.

The FIA has issued a provisional entry list for next year referring to the team as ‘Scuderia Alpha Tauri’.

2020 F1 entry list

As published by the FIA on 30th November 2019. It does not contain full details of all drivers confirmed for the 2020 F1 season, including Pierre Gasly and Daniil Kvyat at the renamed Alpha Tauri and Nicholas Latifi at Williams.

  1. What does that mean?

    1. Alpha Bull… the one which is used for insemination of herd.

      1. Very interesting choice of name based on meaning.

    2. It’s the name of the main star in the consellation of the Bull (Taurus).

      1. I thought that is Alpha Centauri.

  2. This is ridiculous, you have now two Alfa/Alpha??????? Come on!

    1. Especially with how likely it will be that these teams will be regularly fighting for the same spots on track right @f1sauber

    2. Don’t worry, I’ll still call them Toro Rosso, just like I still call the other team Sauber.

Problem solved, no Alfa/Alpha, no confusion.

    3. It’s not as bad as when we had Team Racing Renault and Lotus Renault GP…neither of which were really Team Lotus?

Well, I’m sure that won’t cause any confusion.

    1. Did you know that “Confusion” is the second name of “Formula 1”?

  4. *facepalm*

  5. Fashion brand…yes…Red Bull clearly have not diversified enough from selling energy drinks.

  6. Can we all agree to just call them Minardi?

  7. I kinda like the name, though I expect confusion on commentating alongside the Alfa Romeos. They’ll probably end up being referred to just by the Tauri part of the name. Have to admit I checked out some of Alpha Tauri’s clothing. Pretty generic looking clothes – some reasonably nice, but incredibly expensive for what they are.

Wonder if they’ll change the livery? Shame if they in a way, I’ve rather liked the way the Toro Rosso’s look.

  8. Beta Rosso. Shurley shom mishtake?

  9. Some very basic information could have been included in the article.

    From Wikipedia:

AlphaTauri is a fashion brand that was founded in 2016 as a brand extension of Red Bull into the fashion industry. The name is taken from Alpha Tauri, the giant red star of the Taurus constellation, and pays tribute to the founding company, Red Bull. Its headquarters are based in Salzburg, Austria.
