  1. An okay race with plenty of interest in positions 2-5… but the win went how we expected yesterday (and where we left off last year).

Ferrari had the fastest car in quali, but Max edged out pole anyway

Then in the race, Max had a solid half second a lap advantage when he wanted it… which over the race meant he was safe and could burn his last set of tyres pushing for the fastest lap possible.

Carlos drove a great race, but couldn’t quite challenge Checo.

Great recovery race from Stroll, after being rear-ended through no fault of his own on the first lap and starting from the back, to finish alongside Alonso.

  2. First time in 30 years I’ve turned the first race of the season off….And season over cancel my sub to sky sports complete waste of time F1 need to change something or many will do the same …

Needs an asterisk, after Verstappen’s name. * championship decided after one race.

  4. After the very first session in Bahrain this year on the 21st of January I said the results on that day were showing us what the entire year basically would look like and some naive/silly people (@jerejj @esploratore1) criticized me for making that prediction…

So let me bring my post from then here again:

“This is basically how 2024 is going to look and it’s hard to hope it won’t:
    1. Red Bull
    2. Ferrari
    3. Aston Martin
    4. McLaren
    5. RB
    6. Mercedes
    7. Sauber
    8. Williams
    9. Alpine
    10. Haas

The most likely difference would be Mercedes being much stronger.”

    “David

Possibly the most ridiculous pre-season post I have ever seen”

    Oh David, David…

    1. Aston Martin and RB too high as well.

    2. Looking at the comments on that article:
      – David wasn’t criticizing the content of your prediction, but the method of it: simply copy-pasting results from the first test. You left that part out of the quote.
      – Several comments were saying that your prediction of Mercedes being 6th was off – and it was, at least, based on the first race.

Looking just at the results from the first race, you were off by 15 places. That’s not so good, especially since Red Bull being the best team was sort of a given. Copy-pasting last year’s championship results would’ve also been off by 15 places.

The very point that I was making was that the results of the 1st test were an indication of the entire season. So that criticism makes zero sense.

“– Several comments were saying that your prediction of Mercedes being 6th was off – and it was, at least, based on the first race.”
        – No. If if you bother to read my comment – I clearly state: “The most likely difference would be Mercedes being much stronger”

I did read your comment. But above you were saying that the content of your prediction was criticized. It really wasn’t, apart from the Mercedes part.

Besides, making a prediction with asterisks isn’t really making a prediction – that’s making several predictions.

I’m not saying your original comment was way off. But the way you are presenting your comment now like you knew the results better than other commentators doesn’t make sense. Actually, several people in that article otherwise agreed with you but said Mercedes would be higher.

        2. You predicted RB (Toro Rosso) would beat Mercedes and they finished a minute behind. I’m not sure what the flex is.

          1. I predicted the entire season, not the race in Bahrain though.

    3. I think I could have made a ‘likely’ equally semi-accurate prediction before the first test. As much as we all like surprises, the probability of significant changes in the pecking order during a period of stable regulations is slim (though not non-existent).

As @hotbottoms stated, using 2023 standings would be as comparable (although I made your prediction 14 places different vs 2023 at 15 places. Still, hardly a variation of Nostradamus proportions)

Interestingly – to me anyway – the difference between race 1 2023 and the full season results was 17 places, so I am unsure why you wouldn’t wait until the end of the season to flaunt your predictive/copypaste skills, rather than risk the possibility of being wrong twice come December.

  5. 6 points!

  6. Imagine spending 130+ million on a car (engine and salaries exempted) and then having this be the result.

Remember when FOM said being competitive for wins was a requirement to being in F1? That was funny.

      Agreed.
Being competitive for X or Y position is a naive assumption, and a bad and selfish approach towards doing statistics as well, instead of trying to achive convergence of performance of the whole field what at least in theory and intent can be pure and a good goal. I mean why would the topmost positions be distinct, why should be they different in a pure statistical sense. I hope in terms ofgeneral sense and intelligence the population will improve and can not be fed with anything in the future.
