MemberHello everyone! First year at a grand prix this year with the hubster, very excited and we are camping at Silverstone. I noticed on the silverstone website it said to arrive on the Wednesday for the weekend campers, we can’t make it until Friday morning. What is camping like on site? especially if we arrive on Friday morning are we going to end up with a rubbish pitch etc? cheers guys

MemberI cannot wait to go, Weather looks like it will be better than last year (It could not have got much worse) Its nice to know what I am doing this year, rather than last year which was my first year not having a clue where, what and how.
As for General Admission, For Qualifying we watched at Maggots/Beckets, because its so fantastic to see the F1 cars at full throttle through there, but for the race we watched from Luffield, because you see the cars for a full U turn plus you see the overtaking from the straight including DRS, and that in my opinion is the best place to watch a load of action and certainly a nice section to get to. As said Abbey is tiny and not really worth it, Vale/Club is a big area and you will always get a spot there, but it is not the most exciting corner, standard Break turn and full throttle onwards. I got there at 6am for Race Day, the gates had already opened by this time (They are meant to be opened at 6am) And the place was packed, but you are able to nudge yourself into a good spot, its just you have to look carefully, F1 fans and their chairs can look like they take up a lot more space than they actually do!23rd June 2013, 21:56 at 9:56 pm #205574th13teen
MemberI never queued in the Road queues towards the circuit because we walked/biked from the campsite, but I can assure you, the queues are crazy long and they are crazy long even at 5:45 AM!!!!! So I would advise a campsite for 2 nights, I would recommend a cheap one with no frills (Just a field) I am staying here this year…Dadford Road Campsite! No more than £40-50!

ParticipantBags all packed just need to get camera sorted now, beers already chilling nicely in the fridge. Cool boxes at the ready and got the waterproofs out just in case, hopefully won’t be needing them though lol, last year is still fresh in my mind.

Participant@Rodger Silverstone does not hold a Thursday pit walk. All the other races I’ve been to have done but for some reason Silverstone choose not too.

ParticipantHaving outlayed near on £800 for two class 2 grandstand tickets (Club) I’m pretty disappointed to hear we will have to fight for seats on Friday (less so) and Saturday. I don’t understand why Silverstone does this? Other GPs I’ve been to let you roam on Fridays which is fair enough as there’s rarely fierce demand on that day. But having to sit somewhere rubbish on the Saturday as we won’t be able to get there very early really grates when we’ve paid so much. Love to see them implement allocated seating on Saturday.
Can anyone advise which grandstand we’d be best to try for on the Saturday if we arrive around 10 or 11am? Not fussed on tramping around the whole circuit looking for a seat. ;)

Participant@Misty id still head for your grandstand,i honestly cannot remember the grandstands being full on the saturday however much the press like to trumpet it
Im in vale this year due to only booking about an hour ago24th June 2013, 14:46 at 2:46 pm #205579Joe
ParticipantI Agree.. Last year, even late morning/early afternoon on the Saturday when everyone was trying to pile into a grandstand because of the rain, It was not a problem trying to get a seat in any of the locations we tried.. International Pit Straight, Abbey, Club and Becketts.. I would imagine it will be even easier this year, with slightly lower ticket sales and expected better weather..

ParticipantCheers Alex. I hope you’re right. I’ve no issue with the roaming thing if the decent grandstands are not full up early on Saturday. Sounds like numbers are down a bit this year which may help…
Early weather reports look good, particularly for Sunday.

ParticipantAh, I was going to ask about Friday and Saturday roving tickets as I didn’t know if the grandstands filled quickly so that we would have to get to them hours before a session. Good to know that it isn’t as bad as I imagined, particularly for qualifying. This is the first time I am doing a 3-dayer so I haven’t experienced the crowds on these days. Thanks for the info, @darthsaku and @joetoml1n!

ParticipantHmm…. hate to disagree with Alex & Joetoml1n but since the change in the layout the stands from Abbey right round to the end of the Club Grandstand have been really busy. Last year we started at Abbey and walked the whole length of the new pit straight and only just got a seat for Qualifying towards the end of the Club stand. Now don’t get me wrong don’t think you need to be sat down at 6 am but if you want to be assured of a seat I would seriously be looking to get sat down by the time the previous race ends at 11:55 am. As the stand empties for bathroom and beer break is your best chance to get in. Also agree that ticket sales are definitely down on last year (shame) so may help but would still be assuming its going to be busy especially round that part of the track. If your looking for a really good place to watch Quali from try Woodcote A. Its a great view from there.
