My copy turned up this afternoon! woohoo, I think I know what I’m doing tonight!

I’ve ordered (well, pre-ordered) with Amazon who wont be releasing it until Monday, despite global release being the 24th!? What a joke!

its awesome. I played a few laps before heading to work. can wait till I go home.

23rd September 2010, 20:33
you mean you didn’t take the day off?
I am working from home atm, this is going to be *hard*

Aw no car failures and you can’t save replays. They seem to be the only bad points though, can’t wait to play it :D

Thats really annoying they haven’t fixed the worst feature of GRID! no saving replays!!! grrr.
Oh well.

Quick tip guys, take off braking assist straight away, it auto forces you to brake way too early.
Keith Collantine (@keithcollantine)
23rd September 2010, 18:16
I like that – I think if you’re using driving aids it should make you slower than you could be without them.
Sush Meerkat
23rd September 2010, 19:26
Braking assists actually destroys lap times, you should only use it for the first 3 laps of a track to learn the braking zones.
It’ll stop you from going full throttle when you need to/want to.
Sush Meerkat
23rd September 2010, 19:43
Oops forgot to say sorry, the driving aids are only really there for control pad users.
If you’ve got a steering wheel driving aids must be turned off, they only slow you down, but the braking assist slows everyone down.
If you have a PS3, you want this wheel

I think that sounds good, as you do. Be assisted or have a try for yourself to improve on what the assistant does. Makes a nice challenge of it.

That and you won’t learn unless you hit the wall a few times…

You only missed mentioning if it supports peripherials like driving wheel for xbox, which I guess it does. Nice list.

Why wouldn’t it?

I’m pleased with most everything that’s been said except for the damage model and the amount of stupid blathering your engineer does. Or really, I should say more the fact that it leaves you out of critical info such as local yellows. Is there at least something on the screen such as a track map that flashes yellow even when you turn him off?
And of course, the final determining factor: actually driving it to see how she feels. That’s what I’m most eager to find out in person…

How have you managed to get your hands on a copy?? Is certain places selling it already??
Keith Collantine (@keithcollantine)

I’ve been in touch with Codemasters since they announced they had the official licence.

What no Safety Car and car failure? I expected better from Codemasters.
Anyway expecting my copy soom. Any idea when it releases in Asia? 24th??
Keith Collantine (@keithcollantine)
23rd September 2010, 16:50
The lack of a safety car was announced a long time ago – it’s explained here:
“F1 2010″ – first play (Pictures & video)
I don’t think they’ve given a reason for not putting car failures in other than that it was a lower priority than other features that did make it in.
nik (@nik)
23rd September 2010, 20:37
I dont know why car failures would be a difficult feature. The code would be something like:
* Pick a random number between 1 and 100.
* If the number is 7, slow the car down and display smoke
* In the case of Lotus and Virgin, replace 1000 with 5
* In the case of HRT, replace upper-bound 1000 with 1 :)
anyway, you know what I mean – they could have used real-world team and engine failure rates to simulate it. Reality should be that if you are driving in a HRT car, you can’t expect to finish each race.
Do your simulated competitors crash/retire?
BasCB
24th September 2010, 7:05
Not sure car failures make for much fun in the game.
If they include it in the future, i should think it is something only activated by the player willing to undergo this (a bit like the guys doing “real death” in online games like warcraft to make it a bigger challenge).

I’m sure lots of people know this but i’ve been playing Geoff Crammond’s GP4 still and it will take a lot to pull me away from it! On my PC i’ve got 2010,2009,2007,2006,2004,2001,1995,1994,1991,1989,1988,1983,1982 and 1979 mods with 84,85 on their way soon. I can also edit how strong the AI is. I know it can take a lot of work but it’s definitely worth it. I play with an xbox360 pad Having said that i’ve pre ordered F1 2010 and i can’t wait for it. If you want to check it out head over to http://www.grandprixgames.com or search for GP4 mods on google as there are video tutorials on youtube.

Shameless Atari plug warning!
Darran
23rd September 2010, 17:28
Although both were mentioned along time ago its a shame saftey car and car failures arent in it but this is there first year at it so i’d expect them to be in 2011. Saftey car would have made race stratgy more interesting and the car failures is the only obvious thing this game is missing. Still tomorrow will be a good day!

Hi Keith – does the no in-season driver changes apply to the player too? Ie can you be promoted from Virgin to Renault half way through?
Keith Collantine (@keithcollantine)
23rd September 2010, 18:14
If you can, I’ve not been doing well enough to achieve it! And I’m leading the drivers’ championship with Virgin in one game. So I suspect not.

23rd September 2010, 20:49
I think you have to talk to your agent about changing teams
BasCB
24th September 2010, 7:06
Than again, if he is leading with the current team, why change mid season?
Mike
24th September 2010, 3:44
…. I bet Keith is playing expert mode…

Only bad things seem to be no car failures. That sucks.
Calum
23rd September 2010, 19:32
Thats good! Before I was a full time F1Fanatic, I used to play the game and getting poll was a huge acheivement, and I hated starting a race and seeing the whole grid overtake me because of “supposedly random but all to frequent” engine failure ect.

I’ve heard that there is no point in having ABS off as you can’t lock the brakes even if you tried. Is this true?
Mads
23rd September 2010, 23:04
That is definitely not true. I am driving a Lotus right now with a high downforce setup and i use ABS even though i play with a wheel.. pretty embarrassing. I played Bahrain without ABS and i under steered in a lot of corners because i locked up my brakes. And when i didn’t i braked to little and ran wide. I need more practice before i will have a go without ABS.
Ash
24th September 2010, 8:42
I use the wheel and ABS is not required, you simply have to manage the brake pedal, not just stomp your foot on it and hold it down. Also, you can manually adjust your wheel settings ingame to make the pedal less sensitive if you’re looking wheels too much :)
Calum
23rd September 2010, 19:09
Hehehe, there’s a guy at school who was wonding me up for not having a PS3 for this, so I told him you only have HRT at the start, and you have to unlock new teams by beating them in the Career mode Championship/ Gu-La-Ble
James
23rd September 2010, 19:27
No red flags? A shame, I think that would have made it just that bit more realistic
luigismen
23rd September 2010, 20:12
I already have my copy!! wohooo! but I have to wait until saturday to play… can’t wait.
By the way, I don’t see why no car failures are such a big deal, when today cars almost never have some mechanical issue who forces you to abandon the race
BBT
23rd September 2010, 20:13
Well the stop go penalties isn’t a deal breaker, Have there been any this season?
I’ll reserve judgement until I play it.

Does anyone know whats going on with the north american release of this game?! I pre-ordered from best buy (in seattle), and it was supposed to be released yesterday, but the store STILL hasnt gotten the shipment of the games yet, and none of the other stores Ive called in the area have it either, but I cant find anything about it on google. Has anybody heard of delays or any other detail?

I’ve read the checklist and everyone’s comments, but forgive me if this has already been mentioned.
One thing time and time again I wish I saw in F1 games is the ability to change drivers, make your own and customize. A lot of people will be playing this for years to come, but you all know how it is! The realism is sapped immediately once you’re racing a driver on the game and then you realise ‘oh yeah, he’s not in F1 anymore’ or if he’s driving for the wrong team.
Not asking for anything too complex, it’d be just nice to keep the field up to date so the career mode doesn’t age so quickly, thus reducing replayability.

It’s my birthday on the 29th so holding out in case anyone a) buys it for me, or more likely b) gives me gift vouchers for HMV or somewhere that sells it…
