Now for the second season running, they’re keeping 4 pm as the start time for qualifying due to some concert. I wish they brought it forward by an hour at least. An hour towards the previous (traditional) 1 pm slot. Oh well, qualifying is only qualifying, but still, postponing stuff just because of some off-track activity isn’t really a valid argument to do so. The scheduling of a motor racing event should be (and fortunately usually is) based solely around the stuff that matters the most, which is, of course, the on-track stuff, not the off-track stuff. Well, next year at least, they’re going to have to bring it forward by an hour at a minimum if/when the US GP is going to take place in early-November when the clocks go back an hour in the US (and Canada).

2 years running seems like its a pattern. Probably the circuit finances work out better that way – quallie is the main event, and goes after the support acts.
Bit of a pain for viewers in Europe, but going to bed and playing back first thing in the morning is fairly safe from spoilers – and ultimately, the points are handed out from the race itself.

@OldIron I wouldn’t’ regard something happening for the 2nd time in a row a pattern yet. Previously, the local start time for qualifying was always 1 pm, so that’s why I referred to it as the ‘traditional’ start time for this particular session. Nevertheless, I agree that it isn’t the end of the world since it’s only qualifying, and not the race itself, which in the end, is the most relevant session of a GP weekend after all.

Qualifying is at 2:30 am, and the race at 11:40 pm, local time for me.
There is absolutely no way I’m watching this race live.
I wonder if our fellow fanatics Aus/NZ will wake up to watch qualifying, given its lateness :-)

This is perhaps one of the least watched races on TV with Asia completely put off due to the times. Its also early in the morning in A/NZ on a Monday.
Certainly a delight for Europe !!

05:10 Monday start daylight saving time in Aus. So not that bad, but I will miss most of the race due to work.

I like the picture – really shows the elevation change into the first corner. It’s usually flattened by the tv cameras, even the onboards.
