The first pictures of the Manor MRT05, the car they will use for the 2016 F1 season, have been revealed by the team.
Technical director John McQuilliam declared the team’s all-new design, the first to be powered by a Mercedes power unit, is “a contender”.
“We really believe that,” he added. “The design team have focused almost exclusively on it since the middle of last season and it’s just a whole different ball game to any of its predecessors. We haven’t left any performance on the table and right now I can say there’s not a single part of the car we’d have designed differently.”
“We had to ‘make do’ last year and that’s not what we’re here for,” he added. “We build fast race cars for a living and it’s great to get back to doing what we love.”
As well as current-specification Mercedes PU106C power unit the Manor also uses a gearbox and ancillary components supplied by Williams.

That’s one beautiful looking livery!

I’ll second that.
Reminds me a little of the Essex Lotus 81 livery which was also great.

Actually it’s very similar paint job with our city bus in Jakarta Indonesia. One can say it’s Haryanto involvement and influence here…

Nice one @elangsawah. So its really a super fast city bus! I do hope to see it meet its schedule and come in for some points this year :-)

I think doesn’t actually look good, just different enough that it pleases the eye.
if we had a full grid of car running this kind of livery, this would be truly unspectacular…

And the difference is that they have used consistent colour combination throughout the car…

The best livery this year, easily. The white/grey on the rear wing doesn’t really work for me, but other than that, it looks wonderful.

I like it. Livery is very good, shame that nose looks kind of weird.

Weird aerodynamically or aesthetically? I think it looks fine aesthetically, unlike those ugly thumb noses…

It’s alright, probably not worth giving them too much credit on the colour combination though…you might want to google ‘le mans porsche gulf’ first…

22nd February 2016, 12:09
Those aren’t Gulf colours, they’re nowhere near light enough. However, I knew I’d seen this livery before somewhere, and @gunusugeh pointed it out above: Spirit-Honda.
So, maybe no credit for the livery, but they do deserve credit for using colour.

Nice colours but need it the car looks way behind everyone else in design terms. I will be shocked if they do not average 21 and 22 in quali this year.

My thoughts exactly. Looks very low budget, specially the front wing compared to everybody else

22nd February 2016, 14:41
Thing is in terms of looks I prefer it than all the other cars with intricate little bits. Sometimes the low tech aero looks better, I think this is like early 90’s levels of aero sophistication.

It’s such a beautiful car, really.
With this kind of livery, I’d imagine this would be the perfect fit for a young American driver who has prior experience with the team, proven capable in race scenarios, very marketable in bringing in new sponsors on top of the existing ones they already have.
…Oh yeah. Oops.

The Monkey Seat is very interesting on the Manor. The nose seems less developed than the other teams though.

Not sure what you lot are excited about tbh.
It’s ok, better than haas or the ferrari disaster for sure, but nothing to phone home about, i could imagine it on a midfield gp2 car.

“there’s not a single part of the car we’d have designed differently.”
Interesting quote, especially given the apparent simplicity. Had to do a bit of reading on McQuilliam, sounds like he’s been very restricted either in position or budget for some time and can stretch his wings a bit now. This definitely feels like the proper rebirth of Manor/Marussia after juuuuuust somehow managing to scrape by last year. Really a fan after seeing the livery, exactly what the sport needs.
Hopefully there’s some underpinning philosophy behind the “simple” design that can see them move up the field occasionally and secure the teams place. At the very least the quote gives me hope that’s the case.

I guess Manor didn’t learn from last year about short noses or is this the car they meant to run last season? The update that never came?
And I guess they didn’t get the memo about having a grey and black livery either!
I’m no expert but this chassis doesn’t inspire thoughts of success. Except may on the straights.

I currently have the new Williams as my desktop, and can clearly see the Senna ‘S’ on the nosecone in rememberance…can’t see any JB17 on the new Manor…although correct me if I’m wrong, internet!

where are Rio harianto , why not balance to publish MRT drivers..
Keith Collantine (@keithcollantine)
3rd April 2016, 15:15
It’s not a question of “balance”; Haryanto hadn’t driven the car at the time this article was published over a month ago.
There are loads of pictures of Haryanto driving this car and others on F1 Fanatic.
