Am I hallucinating… or does the forum actually have an edit button? :)

Edit: Yes it does. Yes it does, indeed.

    Let them race.

The WCC is lost. The WDC standings are down to individual drivers, not the team.

Let them race, let them have at it, and use the rest of the season to work it out of their system.

Over the winter break, sit them down and tell them they need to work as a team to beat Mercedes, and that their driver pairing is better than Mercedes’, but only if they work as a unit.

Binotto must anyway have a driver in mind to replace Vettel when he retires, or if his contract is not renewed. Be ready to play the nuclear option of firing a driver who doesn’t toe the line in 2020 and promoting that hopeful. Hopefully Leclerc will realize time is on his side and won’t do anything silly, because if he’s the one who doesn’t toe the red line, it’s going to hurt Ferrari as much.

@matthijs – I think “indifferent” sums up my feelings as well. On a level, I know these 21 points can make a difference in the title, but in most races it feels like a bolted-on addition when the top 6 cars attempt a brief shootout.

It was only when @matthijs commented that Max scored 26 points today that it reminded me that we’re handing out a point for the FLAP.

So in an eventful race like yesterday’s German GP, it can easily go unnoticed. Then again, I’d say that’s not due to the quality of racing, “eventful” was the keyword – so many things happened during even the concluding laps of the race that keeping track of the fastest lap fell by the wayside. In contrast, we could still have a good race that includes tension around the FLAP point – and I say that as someone who’s not overly enamoured of the idea of a point for FLAP.

@jeanrien – ha ha, I knew that post would come back to bite me, right after I pronounced the Mercedes car as infallible.

I agree, I share your suspicions about Keith. I also heard his favourite colour is orange ;)

Seriously though, very cool timing on his part about this question – he asked, and it happened.

Now let’s see if Max needs an engine change after pushing his PU that hard for 30 laps.

No, I expect them to lose a(t least one) race.

I don’t expect to see reliability, operational or strategy errors hampering them. That said, I’d still wager the odds will eventually go against them. They lucked into a win at Bahrain, and despite dice having no memory, I’d say the situation will reverse. i.e. some manner of bad luck will wrong foot them – an ill-timed safety car, etc. So I can’t predict where it’ll happen, but if its an SC-induced problem, then Singapore looks to be a reasonable location.

Now, all of that speculation centers on how the leading Mercedes might slip up in a race. Whether there’ll be a non-silver car behind them to exploit that moment of weakness remains to be seen. Ferrari no longer give me confidence in this regard, so I’d predict it’ll be Max seizing the moment, chased down very hard by one or both Mercedes.

Cheers, Keith, glad to know that’s on the radar.

@keithcollantine – Would it be possible to have videos of Craig’s articles? Subtle animations of drawings/photos to better call out the specific features (like changes to wing elements). His articles are a great candidate for “show, don’t tell”.

In general, I like the videos a lot. I still wish that RF would offer us the option of a live commentary audio track for F1 races, although you’ve previously mentioned that is unlikely to happen due to other commitments.

Good to know it wasn’t just me who enjoyed having PDR on, I too found it a pleasure to listen to him. Ditto for Karun when he made an appearance. I did not mute the audio on race day purely due to PDR being on.

Crofty the auctioneer is an apt description, and like Jay above, I prefer Ben Edwards to Crofty (in India we used to get C4 commentary until and including last year).

Brundle is someone who has changed. Some years ago, I enjoyed listening to him since his punditry was excellent, and he was a voice of measured reason. More recently, however, it sounds like he’s having to also shout to keep up with Crofty, and it’s not as nice. His grid walks are fun, though!

Good point about Johnny Herbert – I always felt that he was a bit of a hanger-on. No disrespect to the man – he’s done his share of racing – but what does he exactly contribute? A handful of observations and some guffaws? But hey, if Sky were willing to pay me for that, I too wouldn’t be complaining!

With respect to the clip that plays at the start of a session in the TV broadcast:

The theme music makes me laugh. The music seems a bit … pompous … to my ears. I do like the video showing the drivers, that’s a nice touch.

I also feel that the duration is a tad too long, but that might just be my impatience at wanting to get into the meat of a session.

More grating is during the broadcast, they put in some whooshing sounds at the start and end of a replay (and maybe other events).
