The Goodwood Festival of Speed organisers are hoping to attract the most current F1 teams ever to this year’s event.
Lord March said at a press event this morning they plan to have nine of the 12 teams represented at the 2011 Festival.
Red Bull, McLaren, Ferrari, Mercedes, Renault, Williams, Lotus, Virgin and HRT are expected to attend leaving only Force India, Sauber and Toro Rosso not represented.
The theme for this year’s Festival will be “Racing Revolutions: Quantum Leaps that Changed Motorsport”.
In line with that them, among the cars on display at a media event today was a McLaren-Cosworth MP4, the car which pioneered the use of carbon fibre in chassis construction.
The Festival will also mark the 100th anniversary of the first Indianapolis 500 with over 30 winning Indy Cars on display.
And a collection of Group B rally cars will mark 25 years since the heyday of the spectacular category on the forest rally stage.

I can’t wait to read all about it. I love watching Goodwood on TV. I’d love to go one day and take my grandfather. That would be a dream come true. :)

You must go!
My Dad and i have been the past 3 years. The past 2, i’ve taken him as his birthday present.
We spotted discounted tickets in a newspaper for our first year.
And last year he won tickets from a different newpaper for the Friday, which was nice as i’d got tickets for the Sunday for his birthday.
So it’s really worth checking the press for discounts and competitions in the run-up to the event.
The huge variation of cars, bikes and other machines on show makes the ticket worth its weight in Gold!

Afraid not – that was someone being taken up the hill in it. But I did get to have a go and should have some video from it on the site soon.

Well we can assume HRT won’t be there given that they’re F111 won’t make it through customs.

Went for the 1st time last year and it was just amazing, but i doubt il go this year as its something id like to do every so often rather then every year. But it sounds awesome from what they want to celebrate.

Can’t believe how basic that Aston looks. Just looks like it’s going to be miles slower than the Audis and Peugeots. Also looks shocking compared to last years car.
And I hate that F1 teams aren’t allowed to use current cars for demonstrations. Can’t stand seeing 5 year old cars with the wrong wings and colour scheme shoved on.

The Aston not only looks rather basic, compared to the Audis and Peugoets, it’s also terribly ugly.
And I agree on the old cars…

What on earth is the car in the background of the Indy lineup?! Looks immense!
And once again, it’s time to play the ‘Guess which F1 car that is because it’s older than the livery painted on it suggests’ game with that Renault showcar.
My guess is a mid-late 2000’s model.

McLaren F1 and to right of it it’s a Peugeot EX-1 Concept.

That demonstration Renault looks gorgeous in JPS colours. I like the irony of the 79 showing up; “Sorry mate, WE’RE the real Lotus.”

17th March 2011, 18:08
Actually, the 79 almost certainly came from Classic Team Lotus, which was established by Team Lotus, but is still based at Hethel next to Lotus Cars, and is the only part of the Lotus empire still owned by the Chapman family… who recently voiced their full support for Group Lotus over Team Lotus!

When you say Lotus Indycar you mean Dallara-Honda sponsored by Lotus right?, just as the Penske-Chevrolet is not a Marlboro Indycar.
Beautiful pics by the way…

The current indy cars are not much to look at. Seeing it next to the iconous Penske … makes me feel sad. A shame they did not use those Panoz CART chassis, they look a lot better.

Is that a camera on the Caparo, or does Mika have a RoboCop style visor?
PJ Tierney
17th March 2011, 15:27
Camera’s actually where the windscreen would be if the car had one, it’s just the angle of the shot playing tricks.

I’m heading down with my brother on the friday, suppose I’ll have to read up on some Indy cars (I have a bad habit of assuming old indy cars are F1).

I will of course be going again this year, bit this time for the whole weekend. I’m camping with some friends and it’ll be my third time, their first.
Group B cars you say? Bring it on!

For a moment I thought the Caparo was another car, painted with a JPS colourscheme and now called a Lotus.
On the MP4 and the 79, isnt it nice to see F1 cars without lots of sticking plaster winglets all over the place.

Hi,
I am thinking of going to this event for the first time, would people who have been before recommend it? The atmosphere looks really great from what I’ve seen.
Just a couple of questions, do I need the grandstand ticket or would GA be OK (I am treating my Dad as a surprise!).
And would you recommend all 3 days, I’ve been looking for a programme of events but had no luck to see what’s happening when. It’s just I may not be able to get all 3 days off work. Thanks!
And
