      But it is game over, regardless of the race it’s actually finished in.

      I’m disgusted that with the lineup of teams and drivers the sport has at the moment, that we have to stoop to the level of disregarding a driver to have an entertaining championship.

      I’ve considered the Championship over since around about the British Grand Prix… I’ve ignored it and just concentrated on enjoying the races themselves.

      However, I am enjoying the battles lower down the order.

      To expand a little, because some people are disputing this, here’s how I think Vettel can be champion in Singapore.

      Vettel is 112 points ahead of Alonso (284-172). There are six races left today, so up to 150 points to be won.

      At Singapore Vettel could increase his lead to 137 points (112+25) and there will be five races remaining meaning there will be 125 points up for grabs. Therefore, Vettel would be champion.

         I’ve done some calculation, in order for Sebastian Vettel to win the World Driver’s Championship in Singapore, Fernando Alonso will have to finish the race 4th & below while Jenson Button & Mark Webber will have to finish the race 3rd & below.

         Correct me if I’m wrong (:

         WDC Scenario:
         Vettel 1st +25; needs a further gap of 13 pt in the race for Alonso and 8 pts in the race for Webber/Button.
         So when Vettel wins, Alonso P4 or lower（＋12pts or less for ALO）; Webber/Button P3 or lower would work （+15 or less）.

         When Vettel doesn’t win he could still wins WDC but it needs ALO/BUT/WEB/HAM finishes much lower than usual.

            The same podium we saw at Valencia would do the trick. It really only requires Hamilton to do better than his usual this season and a slightly off day for Alonso; Webber and Button have finished 3rd or lower in the majority of their races.

         I don´t think so….perhaps after Singapore, considering neither ALO,BUT, nor WEB were allowed to be second….or 3rd in ALO´s case…..but does it really matter….Its way more interesting who is gonna be second in the championship…

      James Allen is reporting that Vettel will be champion if he wins in Singapore.

      Ted Kravitz reported that Vettel could not win the title in Singapore.

      Only Keith has actually got it right!

   WOW! What an Italian Grand Prix! Back, with another points summary ;)

   Standings:
   Sebastian Vettel 284
   Fernando Alonso 172 (-112)
   Jenson Button 167 (-117)
   Mark Webber 167 (-117)
   Hamilton Hamilton 158 (-126)

   Let’s see now. There’s 150 to play for; with 125 at the end of the Singaporean Grand Prix. This means that it is entirely plausible, and possible, that Sebastian can and will seal the title in Singapore.

   VERY VERY CRUCIALLY, there are now 6 races left. This means that the maximum number of wins a rival could have this year is 8; and Sebastian has more than enough 2nd places to beat the countback to his rivals. That means he has to achieve a gap of 125 rather than 126 in Singapore to WIN THE TITLE.

   Hamilton Hamilton is in dire trouble – if Hamilton finishes BEHIND Sebastian in Singapore; he will be knocked out of the title race – will he be asked to play support for Button then? Will he?

   For him to clinch the title in the next race in Singapore, he must outscore:
   Fernando by 13 points
   Webber by 8 points
   Button by 8 points
   Equal Hamilton

   As a win is 7 points over 2nd; that means that a win is not enough for Vettel. If Webber or Button comes second; Vettel CANNOT clinch the title)

   For what it’s worth, for him to clinch the title in Suzuka, with 100 to play for after the race, he can let the following happen and still be the champion:
   Fernando can outscore him by 12 points (6 average)
   Webber/Button can outscore him by 17 points (8.5 average)
   Hamilton can outscore him by 26 points (13 average)

   For Korea, with 75 points to play for after the race ends,
   Fernando can outscore him by 37 points (12.33 average)
   Webber & Button can outscore him by 42 points (14 average)
   Hamilton can outscore him by 51 points (17 average)

   For India, with 50 points to play for after the race ends,
   Fernando can outscore him by 62 points (15.5 average)
   Webber/Button can outscore him by 67 points (16.75 average)
   Hamilton can outscore him by 76 points (19 average)

   For Abu Dhabi, with 25 points to play for after the race ends,
   Fernando can outscore him by 87 points (17.4 average)
   Webber/Button can outscore him by 92 points (18.4 average)
   Hamilton can outscore him by 101 points (20.2 average)

   For Brazil, being the last race,
   Fernando can outscore him by 112 points (18.67 average)
   Webber/Button can outscore him by 117 points (19.5 average)
   Hamilton can outscore him by 126 points (21 average)

   It’s worth noting at this point that IF THE INDIAN GRAND PRIX REALLY IS IN TROUBLE; SEBASTIAN VETTEL IS THE 2011 WORLD CHAMPION ALREADY

   For Sebastian to clinch the title in Singapore!!
   If he wins;
   Fernando has to finish 4th, maximum
   Jenson/Webber has to finish 3rd, maximum (If either finishes 2nd though; that means Vettel just has to take 1 point on them again)

   If he comes 2nd;
   Fernando has to finish 8th, maximum (yeah right; like Nando will finish 8th in Singapore)
   Jenson/Webber has to finish 5th, maximum
   Hamilton can’t win

   If he comes 3rd;
   Fernando has to finish 9th, maximum

   If he comes 5th, no title yet.

   No matter what happens, Lewis must finish ahead of Sebastian here.

      I agree! Given how the Ferrari is so much slower than the McLaren or the Red Bull, I think his ‘natural position’ would be 5th. Really great driving from Fernando this year!

      What’s wrong with that car? Fernando “The best car developer” Alonso has been developing that for 2 years now, so surely it’s the best car on the grid :P

      But seriously, Alonso and Button certainly have done pretty much the maximum with their machinery. Webber and Hamilton haven’t. And I don’t even have to mention Massa here.

    Ppl the WDC is over. The only one who is driving to beat SV is LH and MW but are very unlucky because of the risks that have to be taken, more so with LH. SV won since Spa.

    Webber on Alonso at Eau Rouge

    Vettel on Alonso at Curva Grande

    Wow, what a tough drive from Alonso being hounded by Hamilton.
    All in all it was a great race. So much happened.

    On the podium it sounded like Nando won, the support was amazing.

    Wow, you all make the season sound over but we have 6 races left. Such a contrast to last year!

    The battle for 2nd is very, very tight but there’s just next to no glory in it.

    Schumacher is catching Rosberg nicely and a solid position for Jaime too. I’d love to see how he performs in a better car.

       I know there’s that famous F1 quote about “second being the first to lose” but I think if say Fernando gets 2nd in the WDC with the car he’s got then it’ll be quite an achievement and something to be proud of. The same for the Mclaren guys but to a lesser extent (assuming the cars stay as they are pace wise).

    vettel is in a schumacher type dominance. I expect it’s not a five year period like the german did at ferrari. That was so boring!! and those cars were actually very fast. They looked fast even on a qualy lap by themselves, so this could be even worse that during the ferrari-schumacher era.
    I really hope it changes next year.

    Webber and Massa have been overwhelmingly outclassed this season and are in serious danger of being humiliated by their respective team-mates.
