Ferrari has revealed its new car for the 2014 Formula 1 season.

The name for the new car, the F14 T, was chosen by a public vote of over one million Ferrari fans. Ferrari hope to win their first world championship in six years with their 2014 contender.

The team has retained pull-rod suspension at the front and rear of their new car. But the F14 T is otherwise very different from its predecessor, largely due to the changes in the technical rules for 2014.

F1 has introduced new technical rules for 2014, including changes to the chassis dimensions and all-new V6 hybrid turbo power units.

Fernando Alonso remains at the team, joined by Kimi Raikkonen, who is returning to the team he won the world championship with in 2007. Raikkonen left the team at the end of 2009 and raced for Lotus last year, but missed the final two rounds after injuring his back.

  1. Kimi and Fernando will be driving a car with a vacuum cleaner nose!

    1. Tears coming down my face.

    2. Dear Mr. Bryne and Mr. Allison,
I don’t mind the design as long as this car would conquer the season.

      1. Doubt they will given they didn’t learn from recent years – continuing with pull rod suspension… Fernando’s downfall was the team’s inability to tune for mechanical grip…his frustration obvious. It will continue. Kimi will be more outspoken if the team lets him down.

Marca illustrations showed push rob – photos show pull…oh well at least McLaren learned from their mistake…

        1. When a driver like Alonso comes to a team and they start winning, you hear all that bull about how he developed the car for them. But when it doesn’t happen, it is the team’s fault and the team alone, eh?

        2. @indyf1fan while I agree that the pull rod suspension has some disadvantages linked to it, you may note that it also has some added advantages.

First of all McLaren opted for revolutionary change while every other team chose to evolve their cars from the previous season. McLaren went in a wrong direction with their invented inverted pull rod, thinking everything was fine. It took them time to re-adjust their car to the correct configuration of the pull rod. Moreover they had other issues too which complicated their challenge last season.

Whereas Ferrari’s lackluster performance last season was down to them unable to keep up with the development race rather than using the pull rod suspension at the front. And since Ferrari has been using this setup for the last two seasons, I don’t think they wouldn’t have evaluated the pros and cons of using the pull rod setup vis-à-vis the push rod setup. So I feel Ferrari are sticking with pull rod front suspension because they believe the pull rod fits in well with the design and aero of the car and has net advantage when compared to the push rod while deploying in their car.

          1. We shall see won’t we. I look at the data not the smoke. Sparks of brilliance driving but the car always let him down…they never could get a grip advantage (except after their experience in the “hidden” tire test…)

Fernando was the ONLY reason Ferrari remained competitive…

      2. I wish that the nose is steeper, then it would look absolutely superb, just like 92-94 cars

    3. I’d like to call it the F14 Beluga. Beluga Turbo.

      1. LaBeluga.

        1. Oh my god, I almost got a heart attack. Thanks for the laughs

        +110 =)

      3. ++1000 You beat me to it. The first words out of my mouth when I saw it were: Oh my God, Fernando and Kimi are driving beluga cars!!!

First picture I saw in my mind was a humpback whale jumping from the water upside down…

      5. Or for those who have small kids:

        perry ornitorrinco

    4. Reminds me of the Airbus Beluga.

      1. It reminds me of a blob fish… and they aren’t pretty !

    5. That sucks.

    6. But the design sets Ferrari and their FIAT (sorry F14T) apart from the rest – at least until next week when we see the others.
It seems they have a different idea what’s going to be fast this year and this is kind of intriguing.

      1. Some subliminal advertising there

    7. I hope that it does not sound like a vacuum cleaner too…

    8. I’m sure that Ferrari will be ‘Cleaning up the Racetrack’

      1. Yeah, it’s a 1600W A+++ class vacuum cleaner, last model :)
… Something had to be done with all that rubber.

    9. The problem with the marbles on the track is solved!

      1. Apparently Ferrari signed a new designer over the winter and it’s only just come to light…. James Dyson! And it’s bag less too with roller ball axles on the back. Shocker!

      2. Good one :D

    10. So, are you saying, the 20014 Ferrari will literally SUCK? that’s not really reassuring.

      1. If it literally SUCKS that will be a succes.

        1. @hohum, don’t get too close of the McLarens though, they have a secret weapon.

        2. LOL, yeah. If they manage to make it suck in air through the snout that could be a really killer move @hohum!

      2. @zimkazimka I’m not sure even Eddie Jordan can see THAT far ahead. Not like we’ll be around to find out, anyway.

    11. That’s exactly what I first thought. It looks like the old original DustBuster from the ’80s.

  2. Ah! A better version for 2014 at least

    1. but that’s ugly as well

      1. interesting. other ugly 2014 cars look fine from the side, but with F14T its the other way around.

        1. That was exactly my reaction. Looking directly from the front it’s not too bad. The moment you start to come round to the side however and it’s really not pretty. I still think the Williams rendering is the best-looking overall.

      2. MP4 29 looks way better than this.

        1. +1 what…an…ulgy…*******….car just yuck it looks like a very sad goldfish

    2. No way, this is by far the worst yet. EWWWWW

    Actually looks decent!

Reminds me a bit of a vacuum cleaner nozzle, but Atleast it’s prettier than the Mclaren and Lotus.

    1. I would put a bet on Ferrari changing to a mac later or lotus style nose later on as this design does not seem to allow nearly as much air flow to the underside of the car as other designs.

      1. Maclaren not mac later……… Silly spell correct…..

        1. McLaren to be even correct

        2. It really surprised me as it sends most the air over the nose rather than under it, I’d expect them to revise it as well, but then again they may feed the diffuser differently. They must have a philosophy that led to this, so time will tell who is right.

Lets see what Red Bull do as that is most likely to be right!!

          1. Well the Ferrari looks practically identical to the maclaren concept drawing. Maclaren must have looked at that design and decided against it.

        3. It’s Mc not Mac.

  4. special! not too bad actually :-)

    1. Special is definitely the adequate word. I’m enjoying the variety these rule changes are bringing but why couldn’t they have this nose but without the dramatic drop before it… I’m guessing we will not be seeing any good looking cars this year…

I actually think it looks quite cool! And yes, I have indeed lost my mind…

    1. I actually agree with you on this one! Yes, with YOU!?!) Lol

I think it looks quite bullish and I honestly never found the high noses very harmonic at all.

      1. WilliamB (@william-brierty)
        25th January 2014, 18:33

@poul Wow, you agree with me? Careful, you might make the sun die prematurely! And yes, reports fresh in, it is snowing in hell…

I completely agree, I actually hated the high noses of chassis like the F138, FW35 and STR8. Now whilst it’s a stretch to say that this is an improvement, I don’t think it is worse…

    2. I find it not as jarring as some of the other designs we have seen so far.

      1. WilliamB (@william-brierty)
        25th January 2014, 18:34

@bullmello – Yes, it is not as bad as the MP4-29 and especially the HORRENDOUS E22…

        1. @william-brierty – One thing I like about the F14 T is that it does not have a protruding snout. Something looks really wrong about the snouts that extend so far out beyond the front wing. Particularly, so far, the MP4-29.

          1. WilliamB (@william-brierty)
            25th January 2014, 20:28

@bullmello – Yes, the MP4-29 definitely has the worst iteration of the “anteater nose”, but I think that is in part redeemed by the fact that the rest of the car is thoroughly aesthetic and very similar to the MP4-27 – the car I thought was the best looking of the hideous “wide front wing and tall rear wing” era.

          2. @william-brierty – I concur, the rest of the MP4-29 is to me the best looking car we have seen so far. Even the grey color looks nice to me, though others don’t seem to be so fond of it.

We tend to be critical of our current cars, but at least none of them have 6 wheels or other even more bizarre features seen in the past.

          3. Yeah, after I picked myself up off the floor, I decided that I liked that it put me on the floor, and I kinda don’t mind it…I think…it does look odd but I find it also looks striking, like Ferrari road cars do, and it looks fast, and powerful, and intimidating. Maybe seeing it in action will decide it for me. I sure like all the cars from the side, but I really only like the Ferrari and the Williams (rendering) so far.

          4. WilliamB (@william-brierty)
            26th January 2014, 13:27

@bullmello – I really don’t think it will take too long to get used to the new look. Without their noses, the MP4-29 and FW36 would be beautiful racing cars, and the F14 T is perfectly palatable. The only problem is the E22, or the walrus, as I shall dub it, but still, at least we are seeing design variation. Also, at least we haven’t seen a car ugly enough to trigger an involuntary projectile vomit like the FW26, yet…

    Extremely fat sidepods.
This could be an extremely mad year. This could be the fastest, or the slowest car by an absolute mile.

    1. It’s actually got the smallest sidepods of any 2014 car we’ve seen to date.

  7. I hope Ferrari haven’t missed a trick by not having an Aardvark nose…there’s a lot riding on the F14 T being competitive. Here’s hoping it’s fast even if it isn’t that pretty!

    1. WilliamB (@william-brierty)
      25th January 2014, 14:22

@colossal-squid – My thoughts exactly. Even though I like the look actually, the fact that Ferrari haven’t gone for an “anteater nose” is somewhat concerning, especially with the nose set to be a pivotal area of division for the teams with the FW36, MP4-29 and E22 all addressing it differently. That said, we all thought McLaren had missed a trick in 2012 by not going with a nose step, and what happened? The MP4-27 turned out to be the fastest car of the season.

      1. McLaren really did miss a trick with the MP4-27. By the time we got to the fifth grand prix they changed the nose completely, making it a lot higher.
The problem for McLaren was hanging on to the low chassis for too long. The low chassis wasn’t as dependant on the high nose as the high chassis design was. But the high chassis was the right design for the previous rule set. McLaren admitted as such by abandoning the low chassis for 2013. They had exploited all of it and would be hard pressed to make it faster for 2013 (while all other teams did turn up with faster cars) so they went the high chassis route. Of course we saw how that went for them but that had more to do with them lagging the others a few years.

TL;DR the MP4-27 was the fastest but it was developed to the extreme and didn’t have anything left to improve on for 2013. High chassis and thus stepped noses were the definitive best solution for the 2012-2013 rules.

  8. Ladies and gentlemen, the world’s first V6 Turbo Vacuum Cleaner!

    1. The Ferrari vacuum cleaner will be a good solution for removing the rubber marbles during the races.

      1. until a bigger chunk gets stuck in the slot, that is!

    2. @craig-o
And we all ready have a V6 fork, and so far two V6… lady… pleasure.. devices..
While I don’t think they are pretty, it is good that F1 has finally got some relevance to the real world. The consumer market is going to love the next gen, V6 powered fork and knife sets and whatever else they can come up with.
I should start saving up all ready!

  9. Never thought the penis noses would actually look good compared to something, guess I was wrong

  10. That’s hysterically ugly! I hope everyone who criticised the McLaren will now rethink.

    1. McLaren and Williams were the ugliest so far now me thinks @hunocsi

  11. Prefer the McLaren! This just looks weird in my opinion!

    1. You dont feel having a one eyed snake at the tip of your car is not more weird? :P

  12. It is essentially like last years car has melted.

    1. You mean the front end alone ;) @formula-1

  13. The ugliest car Kimi will ever have a “privilege” to drive, that’s for sure.

    1. Which could be said about every car we have seen so far. Especially the Lotus would have achieved that too.

      1. I think Lotus is clearly the best-looking car we’ve seen so far. Especially their livery is just superior compared to anyone else.

        1. Force India was nice. We haven’t seen final liveries for McLaren or Williams yet.

          1. I have to disagree with you. Force India completely ruined their decent color scheme by adding that random black to their car.

        2. WilliamB (@william-brierty)
          25th January 2014, 18:39

@huhhii – What?????????????? The E22 was HORRENDOUS! Two noses? Really? The Williams, Ferrari and even McLaren were much better, and in the case of all three, they looked better than I expected.

          1. @william-brierty At least E22 is on balance. It looks like the odd nose actually fits the rest of the car. Ferrari did nothing else but brought F138 and slammed that horrendous nose to it. And added some random uninspired black to the rear. Wohoo.

          2. WilliamB (@william-brierty)
            25th January 2014, 20:37

@huhhii – The E22 has two noses! Nothing more needs to be said! It is not a Formula 1 car, it is a walrus. I just can’t see myself getting used to that, but the F14T is perfectly tolerable. Yes, it looks weird. Yes, it looks like John Prescott sat on the nose but at least it isn’t an anteater. OK, the black is a mistake, but if you what is behind the black you’ll notice that the rear end is completely different to the F138 now that Ferrari have abandoned their focus on the “coke-bottle” region of the car. I think it looks good, especially with the rear wing that bears an incredible resemblance to the one used on the MP4-24.

          3. @william-brierty By the same logic I could say F14T is not a formula one car but a vacuum cleaner with prancing horse logo painted all over it.

It’s a matter of taste. I’m already completely fine with E22. I don’t think F14T will ever grow on me, but of course it’s still possible at this point. It’s a long way to go and anything can happen.

Resemblances to MP4-24 don’t sound promising as we all remember what a dog of a car MP4-24 was ;)

          4. WilliamB (@william-brierty)
            26th January 2014, 12:58

@william-brierty – I guess on balance I prefer the look of a vacuum cleaner to the look of a walrus! Beauty, really does appear to be in the eye of the beholder…

Saying that the F14 T doesn’t sound promising based on a rear wing that bears a frankly incredible resemblance to the rear wing of a MP4-24 is somewhat premature though. Especially since Hamilton scored more points than anyone in the second half of the season, scored two wins and four pole positions in the “dog” that was the MP4-24…

  14. It still looks weird ! but at least it’s a bit prettier at the nose than the Lotus, McLaren or Williams.

    Black is winning over red?!

    1. Sadly, yes. More red please Ferrari!

    2. Actually the longer I am forced to look at it, the less it bothers me. Then again, the longer I look at it, the more it looks like last years car bar the nose.

      1. The Lotus needs shooting at birth. Awful, easily the worst looking car of the field, possibly one of the worst of all time.

    3. It looks like Eddie Brock; a.k.a. Venom is slowly taking over Ferrari….

Well, at least maybe it will also have super powers!

    4. @fer-no65

      Black is winning over red?!

Yes annoyingly so. I would much rather see black win over white in their colour scheme.

  15. Forgive me Luca for I have sinned!

  16. Hate the livery. Ferrari’s should be fully red, not half red and half black!

    1. Yes. Are they trying to hide something at the back?
Or just make it look like a Marussia?

      1. Or avoid advertising restrictions.
        http://i.imgur.com/z9EFkJr.png

        1. Yes of course because Marlboro own that shape (arrowhead) and anyone who uses it must be trying to get people to smoke Marlboro…

          1. @joshua-mesh
No, but Marlboro, or at least the guy who owns the damn thing, is still paying Ferrari an absurd amount of money each year.
It is not unlikely that Ferrari will try to incorporate a few subtle clues in their livery.

          2. Maybe they dont have any subtle clues and instead get their advertising from discussions like this one, where users themselves draw attention to the brand by discussing such conspiracy theories.

        2. History Channel?

    2. Agree, saw a pic of the 2012 car a few days ago. Looked so much cleaner.

    3. I for one like very much the black/white livery, the F138 was the best looking ferrari since a while.

  17. Platybus is back !!!

    1. reminds me of the Beluga Airbus :(

  18. oh my, even worse than the McLaren

  19. Mama Mia! I think I am going to follow the races on the radio. This is just ridiculous. Although the Ferrari looks the best from all other cars, but nevertheless it is still hideous.

  20. if you don’t use the “finger” design in the purpose to get as much air under the car as possible… why, why, why? my beautiful Ferrari car maker create such an abomination? ohhhhh why?

    1. Because they and the FIA got bored of harming kittens and stealing children’s candy.

  21. well this one hit the ugly tree big time!

  22. This car should oversteer as crazy!

  23. wow !,,the view from the back is awesome

  24. The Ferrari F14 T Unisex.

  25. wow… this is NOT what F1 cars are supposed to look like. Thanks FIA.

    1. what are they “SUPPOSED” to look like??? over 60 years of f1 has seen them change every year. f1 cars are not meant to be built to look nice, but built to go fast. I like the variety, it helps identify each year as unique. this fashion of slamming the looks of f1 cars is a direct result of the internet and forums I believe. you didn’t hear much about the cars looks in the 80s and 90s, and I am sure even in the 70s (before my era), where they had tremendously ugly cars.

      1. I agree the 70’s were properly ugly. But I simply don’t see what could possibly be wrong with the shapes of the 80’s and 90’s. Some of the details are a little clumsy and boxy, but the overall shape is just pure race car. To me anyway.
Of cause F1 is about going fast, but all the rules in recent years have been slowing the cars down. So they might as well make sure that they at least aren’t offensively ugly..

  26. The nose tip itself is the best so far, but they managed to have the rest look ugly anyway… another stepped nose! The airbox is shaped even worse and the black looks out of place at the rear, really.

    1. I have to admit the beluga/elephant nose does a pretty decent job in distracting from all the other ugly details.

  27. I prefer this to the McLaren, Williams and Lotus. It’s still odd-looking, though. Looking at it, it doesn’t bring ‘speed machine’ to mind, more ‘leaf-blower’.

  28. I’m thinking dolphin here.

    1. Steph (@stephanief1990)
      25th January 2014, 14:06

@Mouse_Nightshirt it reminds me of the river dolphins, the only difference is dolphins are quite pretty.

  29. bad jar jar

  30. McLaren finger-nose looks much better, than this.

  31. well, so far the hideous nose of all f1 car

  32. They’ve covered up the rear diffuser, I wonder if there is something interesting/innovative going on under there. Alternatively, given the tight schedules, they may not have got round to designing it yet!

  33. It’s the back of the car going to be like this or just a cover from the media?

    Looks terrible

  34. The stepped nose is back at Ferrari in a way isn’t it? sadly :(

    1. I’d say it’s a slopping nose more than a step. This isn’t as bad as the stepped nose, for sure. I was told to expect them to be worse, but they genuinely haven’t been thus far.

  35. looks like some elephant sat on its nose

  36. By far, the ugliest car revealed so far. The Mclaren looks beautiful compared to this thing.

  37. Hatham Al-Shabibi (@)
    25th January 2014, 13:45

This isn’t actually that bad. I kinda like the low profile on the nose. Or maybe I have a thing for handheld vacuum cleaners.

  38. The car is actually quite pretty. Apart from the nose, which is just weird looking – weirdest 2014 nose so far. I wonder how they have avoided the phalic trend that all others have gone for? Regardless of the car – Kimi and Alonso are the best driver pairing I’ve seen for a long time! Can’t wait.

  39. So the Mclaren elephant sat on the ferrari’s nose..

  40. Steph (@stephanief1990)
    25th January 2014, 13:48

I’m not really a great fan of the black. It still looks gorgeous livery wise but Ferrari was at its best in 2010 on that front. The best that can be said about the shape though is that it isn’t the most ugly so far.

  41. Quite simple really! I don’t like it!!!

  42. The F14-T seems to reincarnate the stepped nose concept with one of the weird designs for nose of an F1 car. Still it is much better than those anteaters and phallus noses we have seen so far. I sincerely hope Ferrari’s deviation from ‘the norm’ doesn’t hamper their pace!

  43. I actually think that looks pretty cool, probably on par with the McLaren for me, and then the Williams quite far behind. That video was also awesome, McLaren should have revealed their official launch video at 12:00 rather than a selection of photos.

  44. Why don’t they launch a car that looks great, then put the ugly nose on during testing and prove it makes the car a second quicker.

Give us some back-to-back tests. Casual viewers are attracted by good looking cars, as I was to the early-90s Ferraris, and more recently to Renault 3.5 and Rebellion Racing at Le Mans. At the moment it just looks like F1 trying to be too clever and disappearing up itself.

    1. Even Ferrari doesn’t have the resources to make a ‘pretty’ design to scrap the day after the launch.

We can’t go complain about costs in F1 and then want them to spend thousands on designing and constructing a nose for looks.

  45. Sorry to say this, but LaDave is the ugliest car revealed so far imo… although I like the bunny ears cameras at the nose :)

  46. me sa thinking me no likey that snout betcha betcha

  47. Ladies and Gentlemen,
this is the new Ferrari F14 E.
“E” like Elephant… oh, sorry, it seems like we have mixed up the letters!

  48. A step and an ugly nose, nice!

  49. I like the black they have added, but the nose is… interesting.

  50. Wow!! To think the Mclaren actually looks better this… Now that says it all doesn’t it? I have never laughed so hard at any F1 car unveiling. Thanks FIA.. good job.

  51. Something just occurred to me! We’re going to see plenty of cars lifting the cars in front when hitting them… given the very low noses all the cars have! I can visualize it but don’t know if it is actually going to happen – but I can see it; instead of just damaging the nose, the car in front will lift up, or will it.

  52. I know that that wing is not final as ferrari actually never come up with it until much further in the months coming in but it seems to be a 2013 wing it’s too wide. On the other end it’s is typical ferrari and it’s not noticeable any new distinctive input fron a new designer, it does show however that despite some claims that pull rods at the front were going extinct ferrari stuck with it, so it’s not as interesting as the lotus but it’s here and it will run at jerez.

  53. It’s an absolute monstrosity at the front… I kind of like it for that :D

  54. Ugliest so far by a margin. Air intake openings looks smaller then McLarens or Williams.
Also front wing looks like copy paste work from McLaren wing, and I don’t recall Ferrari using similar wing last year so its all new. I mean it is not even 5 peaces now last year they had like 9 in the end.

  55. Ok ok…. Who sat on the nose?

  56. Jonathan Sarginson
    25th January 2014, 14:34

One always has to think…what would the great Colin Chapman have come up with?…

  57. Oh dear, it looks like it was left out in the sun for too long.

  58. ok so i’m optimistic for ferrari this year, it seems they had 2 routes, look pretty and slow or look ugly and fast. you remember newey stating their car is ugly. so this is a good sign.

    1. I don’t know, the championship winning Ferrari in this century were beauties, imo.

      1. I don’t agree

  59. That’s the most hideous looking thing ive ever layed eyes on.

  60. Seems Ferrari still haven’t fixed their wind tunnel.

  61. Leaving aside the vaccum cleaner, do the sidepods look smaller than the McLaren’s? Is the Ferrari engine easier to cool?

    1. That, or they calculated it using their funky old wind tunnel and put in 2013 data by accident.

Wouldn’t put it past them after recent years…

  62. So LaDave is not a looker. I am just telling myself that this is the nosecone they used for the crash test and didn’t have another one ready for the launch.

  63. I think it’s a shame everybody judges the new cars by their appearance. Indeed, they’re not good looking, but the exciting thing is they all look horrible in their own unique way. Considering the Nose is a huge part of aero performance, we’re likely to see some winners and losers. Any technical change that brings this amount of variety is an interesting one in my book, let alone all the technical innovation you can’t see.

Coupled to the new engine AND new Energy Recovery System this is a fantastic year for F1 in my opinion. Too bad they kept DRS. We might see a different pecking order, followed by an extremely aggressive development race where everybody steals each others ideas.

Sure, they’re ugly, who cares how they look. 2009 was an aesthetic disaster and since then we’ve found much more to complain about than their visual appeal. I can’t way for testing to begin, let alone the F1 season, to show which ugly ducking turns out to be a racing swan.

Well the MP4-29 is so and so, but the F 14 isn’t directly ugly at all! Can’t really understand people who are so judgmental. These cars are made to be fast and efficient, and not pretty, first and foremost.

  64. I’m kind of expecting the Red Bull to have that “bulbous bow nose” design, just because it’s Red Bull.

  65. Nathan (@il-ferrarista)
    25th January 2014, 15:06

Well, I think it looks pretty much O.K. We shouldn’t expect so much more.

And to remind everybody; rock on 2014! Forza Forza Forza Ferrari!

  66. The ugly duckling..maybe a Swan

…and Ferrari was kind enough to write the name of the car above the Scuderia Ferrari logo!

    1. For God’s sake; who at Ferrari hired the designer of the FIAT Multipla? :D

  68. Kind of looks like the RB-9’s nose, only melted down to achieve even steeper curve to fit the 2014 regulations.

  69. Honestly… I don’t know.

The first image I saw (low view from the front, which for some reason their site leads with) is absolutely horrific, but from other angles it doesn’t look quite as bad. Certainly an improvement on McWilotus.

  70. The ugliest Ferrari I´ve seen in all my years of F1.

  71. Instead of the anteater, I would call this the catfish f14T. It is the ugliest thing so far, can’t wait for Merc and Bulls!

And…while I know that some people here asked for more black on that Ferrari I’m pretty sure this year’s colour scheme still won’t impress Jean Alesi’s fans more than last year’s.

  73. Now, that’s truly a nose dive.

  74. Is this really what we were naming? Really? Like really really? We should have had the F14 U, for ugly.

Now with that said…. Go ferrari! We gonna win this season with this F14 U… I mean T. Woop woop!!

  75. F14T
    FIAT

Now we know who’s car this really is.

    1. So true! Unbelievable people were ticked into voting for that name, lol

..And as F1 can’t seem to find enough people to like its vroom, Ferrari decided to attract some new fans by bringing a broom to the pinnacle of motor racing.

  77. Does anyone else feel that so far both McLaren and Ferrari’s liveries seen to accentuate some of the uglier aspects of their cars? McLaren leaving the beams silver seemed to exaggerate the ‘anteater’ quality of their nose; something demonstrated by a photoshop in which they were colored black. Then Ferrari made the sharp drop in their nose seem more pronounced by having the black in their livery follow the same shaped curve just under the front suspension. Perhaps if the line was more gradual the nose would not appear as steep.

It’s not very pretty, but I think it’s great to see that the teams have come up with completely different solutions.

  79. Maybe I’m going insane, but after staring at it for awhile now, I actually don’t mind it anymore….

  80. For a company that’s supposedly is all about luxury, class and style, the reveal video was somewhat cringe-worthy.

    The ugly car didn’t help.

  81. the small sidepods are interesting. does it mean Ferrari have a great cooling system for their v6? does it mean they are packaging too tight and will have race failures? are they risking speed over reliability? or have they got it absolute correct? we will soon find out! with reliability a likely concern for this season, I think this seasons testing times will be really insignificant, unlike the past few years.

  82. I don’t understand how people can call this ugly. look at the 70s f1 Ferraris, now they were ugly, but nostalgia prevents many from saying that. this car looks better to me then last years high nose car, it looks like it is built for speed.

  83. Nose looks like a Elephant’s trunk.

  84. God lord. We’re truly seeing some of the worst looking cars ever.

  85. Im not an expert but is it posible thay made the nose so Low and rounded with those black wings so thay can chanel the air from the top of the nose to the floor?

  86. Here we have the FIAT seacow

The McLaren’s looking rather pretty now ay lads

  87. Dominic Uliano
    25th January 2014, 18:25

while I do agree that the nose is a little like an ardvark, the rest of the car is beautiful.

  88. I think this will look pretty decent from behind.

  89. Its got more than a little bit of Luigi Mario Kart DS about it

  90. The Ferrari manages to combine all the ugliness of last year’s stepped noses with the ugliness of the walrus Williams nose and the protuberance of this year’s noses.

The lotus looks ugly but is at least a new idea. McLaren had the balls to go all out with the schlong concept. Williams and force India went for the obvious.

This, as many on Twitter have commented, just looks like it melted at the front.

  91. I just realised F14 T= FIAT

  92. The front of the Ferrari FIAT looks like a F14t Multipla

  93. An Italian car with a Roman nose.
    Perfect!

Seriously, it looks like my snow shovel, the one with the drooping back-saver handle.

  94. By the way, I’ve been thinking about the nose of the Lotus and I think it’s a fake. The two noses look cylindrical, which would not benefit aero at all. I think they just wanted to make a buzz.

  95. Oh my God…It is a blunderbus.

  96. ferraris new wind tunnel gave them that as the answer???

  97. First caption competition 2014 with that photo of KR, ALO and FI4T. KR: “This sucks, I don’t know what else to say about this car. ALO:” come on Kimi don’t be so pessimistic, at least we get to drive FI4T”. KR:” mate, it still sucks, way too much downforce”

    1. RAI:”…my F14T Punto rally car was cooler…”

  98. Keith with the exclusive – again!

FOM might not be great when it comes to working with new media, but it is nice to see that the teams are paying attention and trying to capitalise on the popular outlets.

  99. We have the MP-Male, the EFemale and the F-Vaccum Cleaner. Mercedes, give us a rhyno.

  100. I don’t like this car.

  101. What’s with the number on the left leg of their suits ?
Should be on the front, under the Santader logo.

    Edina Monsoon.

  102. Stefano: C’mon Fernando, Smile!
    Kimi: Got any Magnum’s?

  103. oh dear, oh dear, oh dear…
My wife just leaned over and said “what’s that Cyril Sneer car all about?”

If you don’t know who he is just google it…

Just booked tickets to the Italian GP so lets hope even though its ugly, it’s fast…

  104. The fall away on most of the new noses makes me wonder how much the drivers will be able to see when executing high speed differential DRS overtakes. Rear ends and front wings often get perilously close. I expect to see a few front wing changes in the first few races till the drivers get used to them.

  105. The nose won’t stay like that for long if they aren’t charging at the front in the early races. I can’t see how they will get enough downforce on the front wing with that design. I am betting a McLaren-esque nose after round 6 if they aren’t competitive enough.

    1. Everyone will have a Red Bull-esque nose before long (whatever that is, we’ll find out on Tuesday). Enjoy the variety while it lasts…

  106. This is the ugliest car so far. McLaren is a real stunner in my eyes!

  107. U.G.L.Y. Can’t the F.I.A. impose dimensions that don’t require monstrous designs to squeeze out the final tenths? F1 cars should be beautiful, 1991 grid was gorgeous.

  108. Ok, so now we now where the designer of the Concorde went after they shelved production of the plane. Looks like they joined forces with that Dyson character and found new employment at Maranello.

  109. Ugliest F1 toaster on wheels so far.
Ferrari, please fire Rory – the home appliance designer.
    Reminds me Beluga plane:

  110. Anyone know when this vacuum is going on sale? I’m sure it would make it more fun for my kids to do their chores.

  111. ferrari’s front nose are similar like dolphin shape…very good in term of speed

  112. Doesn’t anybody think we have gone back to that period in F1 when designers go crazy? 190’s was one. 2014 is another.
