Kimi wont rather he wont be allowed to win a race. For 2019 Honda seem like the most likely candidate for RBR.

That’s rubbish. Kimi got passed in the pits in monaco and so was Max, same strategy same mistake. The press however, poisonous.
I’m surprised by the poll results. Fans dismissing RB for 2nd amount of votes. The team have self proclaimed to have had their best post 2014 pre season. Rb is so professional that I can’t see Ferrari in the title fight.

I say it only because nobody is an obvious candidate for being replaced and the Haas drivers are closest to race ban… and on balance I went for Magnussen! In truth, it’s probably more likely to be someone like Alonso (burnout from too many races and another frustrating year?) or Hartley (if Toro Rosso find the next new thing and Gasly is beating him well). In truth… who knows? Part of the fun…!

Seems unlikely that Renault will favour their team this year. The advantage they could achieve by doing so would be, at best, getting a couple of podiums. That’s not worth the negative publicity of being accused of cheating. And McLaren won’t complain if Renault treats them fairly.

4. Which driver will out-qualify his team mate most often? – Fernando Alonso

7. Who will win the FIA pole position trophy? – Lewis Hamilton
8. Who will be the first driver to be replaced or substituted for a race? – very hard to say. Most likely of recent seasons to be a season where all drivers complete the season with their original team as the worst drivers on the grid – Sirotkin, Stroll and Ericsson all have big sponsorship packages unlike say Kvyat. In reality, only going to happen if a driver gets injured/or is unwell like Massa in Hungary 2017. Most likely in general though, at a push I’d say Brendan Hartley
9. And who will take their place? Difficult. Sebastien Buemi most likely but Toro Rosso could end up putting Sean Geleal in the car
10. Will Lewis Hamilton break Raikkonen’s record points-scoring streak? Yes
11. Who will win the Monaco Grand Prix? Red Bull driver – more likely Daniel Ricciardo

Some people being incredibly optimistic about Verstappen wining the drivers championship. Remember Red Bull have chosen not to be with Renault next year. They clearly are not that happy. And they were the team who had the least time on track during the races. And I think most of that was down to reliability. Red Bull did get close to Ferrari by the end of the season, but they were a fare way off Mercedes at most races. Basically, because of the speed of the Mercedes, I think Bottas stands a higher chance of getting the championship than Verstappen this year. But I think it is either going to be Hamilton or Vettel. Next in line, I would probably say Bottas. As I think Mercedes and Ferrari will be a clear top 2 teams most of the season. And I don’t think Kimi is close to Bottas’s level any more.
Relating to the question about Bottas remaining in Mercedes in 2019, I would say he will. I think far too many people are not giving him enough time. Some drivers cope better with unexpected moves than others. Bottas didn’t have much time to develop the car to suit his driving style. It could well be the case that over the winter, he’s got it to suit him just right and he could put in a really big surprise. We just don’t know. Verstappen had a brilliant move to Red bull early in the season, but his 2nd weekend was dreadful when he had 3 crashes.
Bottas may be a bit too cautious at times but he’s never been deemed responsible for his own or anyone else’s retirement in qualifying or the race in his entire career. Not even in practice sessions if I’m correct I don’t think a single other driver on the grid that has been in F1 for several years has managed to avoid this. If he improves his pace this year, Mercedes may see an advantage to how well Bottas keeps out of trouble. He may well be a very reliable number 2 driver that is ideal for the team. Over the last few years, there have been plenty of occasions where either Rosberg or Hamilton have crashed resulting in retirement in qualifying or the race where as Bottas hasn’t. Even in his Williams years.
Although Ocon is looking good, he hasn’t managed to consistently look better than Perez yet. And both these drivers have had rather a few clumsy moments and one or 2 that have resulted in a retirement. And I personally think that Bottas is just that bit better than Perez. I think Mercedes would either want Ocon to be more experienced or to have a significant improvement next year if they were to sign him. It could be possible that as Bottas has been in F1 for 5 years now, his feedback could be useful. So I do predict he will stay at Mercedes. I also expect that pretty soon into the season that Horner will manage to convince Ricciardo to sign on at Red Bull in 2019. Limiting Mercedes’ options and another reason why I think they will end up keeping Bottas. I’m assuming that Verstappen has only signed onto Red Bull for such a long time is because he is reasonably confident about what that have planned. Could well be possible that whatever engine they have put together with their chassis could end up making their car the best out there. Hopefully Ricciardo will stay on too as Horner seems to rate them both extremely highly.

@seth-space, exactly – whilst it is correct that Red Bull’s contract does expire at the end of this year, Red Bull have made it clear that they have not yet made a final decision on whether or not they will change engine supplier.
@thegianthogweed, with regards to Bottas and being involved in on track incidents, although he was not formally found guilty (the accident being classed as a racing incident), Bottas did accept responsibility for colliding with Raikkonen at the start of the 2017 Spanish GP, causing him in turn to crash into Verstappen and taking both of them out of the race.
Ben Rowe (@thegianthogweed)
18th March 2018, 22:57
He never fully accepted responsibility. He said he could have done a better job. In an interview afterwards, he just said he thought it was a racing incident. And even if he did think he was to blame, form the rules last year, while they were less strict than previously, if one driver was predominantly to blame for a first corner collision, they said they would be penalised. And as Bottas was the only one who survived, if he was more to blame, it just would have got left as it was. It makes me think that the stewards thought they were all equally to blame or quite possibly more Verstappen or Kimi to blame. I think Kimi was least to blame out of the 3 and personally would blame Verstappen most, but not by much. Anyhow, I would certainly leave it as a racing incident.
But we really can’t say Bottas collided into Kimi. Bottas just braked early (his decision) bud he could have done better than this. Kimi and Verstappen went on the outside of Bottas at the same time along side into a tight corner (their decision and a very big risk). Kimi at this stage couldn’t back out of it and Verstappen left him no room to go any wider (which he could have done). And Bottas went as tight as he could right onto the kerb. And Kimi basically ended up turning into him as he couldn’t go anywhere else. A racing incident was the right decision to me and while Bottas could have prevented it by not being as cautious on the brakes, Verstappen and Kimi could also have backed off rather than going 3 abreast.

Hans (@hanswesterbeek)
18th March 2018, 15:54
1. How many races will Mercedes win this year? A modest 7.
2. What will Fernando Alonso’s highest F1 race finish be? A 3rd place in Monaco.
3. Who will score the most points: Sergey Sirotkin, Charles Leclerc, Pierre Gasly or Brendon Hartley? Brendon Hartley will be a stable force going for 8th/9th/10th each race, but he will only finish half of those races (see question 16).
4. Which driver will out-qualify his team mate most often? Sergey Sirotkin (because Stroll).
5. Will Kimi Raikkonen win a race? Almost, but not quite.
6. Which teams other than Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull will score a podium finish? McLaren, see question 2.
7. Who will win the FIA pole position trophy? Hamilton. I almost went for a Red Bull driver, but it must be a Mercedes driver because of their quali-mode
8. Who will be the first driver to be replaced or substituted for a race? Lance Stroll, for ‘not feeling well’ (see question 15).
9. And who will take their place? Robert Kubica, duh.
10. Will Lewis Hamilton break Raikkonen’s record points-scoring streak? No.
11. Who will win the Monaco Grand Prix? Almost Raikkonen, but eventually Vettel. This happens in some unfortunate manner, such as Kimi “having a bad pit stop”, or crashing, or “an engine problem” which magically solves itself after Seb overtook him.
12. Will Valtteri Bottas get a Mercedes race seat for 2019? No, it will be Ricciardo’s.
13. Whose power units will Red Bull use in 2019? Hondas. Not because Honda was so great in 2018, but because “the signs for 2019 are really promising” and “their operation is impressive”.
14. How much quicker or slower will the 2018 cars be on average over a lap (in seconds)? 1.9 seconds.
15. What will be the biggest political story of the year? See question 8. Stroll will miss some races, in favour of Kubica, for reasons that will never really become clear. Williams has a PR drama, while everyone knows what the problem with Stroll is (their other two drivers appear much more capable on Fridays and in the sim). Stroll sr. gets involved, and that is when it becomes really uncomfortable.
16. Which power unit manufacturer will use the most engines (ICE), and how many? Renault, they will need 30 ICE’s among their six drivers. Honda will need 13 for two drivers, by the way.
17. At which race will the drivers’ title be decided? The last.

1. How many races will Mercedes win this year? I’m hoping for a challenge between top teams, so gonna say 10, hinting to mercedes still being top if it happens
2. What will Fernando Alonso’s highest F1 race finish be? I think a 3rd place is in order in the right circumstances
3. Who will score the most points: Sergey Sirotkin, Charles Leclerc, Pierre Gasly or Brendon Hartley? If cars were even I’d say leclerc without doubts, but since he’s in a sauber and toro rosso improved, I’m still gonna say sirotkin but if toro rosso is better it’s probably gasly
4. Which driver will out-qualify his team mate most often? If leclerc lives up to his junion record, it should be him against a driver like ericsson, if not or if raikkonen is particularly bad, vettel
5. Will Kimi Raikkonen win a race? I don’t think so, but I hope so, it might be his very last win before he retires! He needs a decent ferrari in comparison to mercedes and lucky circumstances to win
6. Which teams other than Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull will score a podium finish? Pretty sure a podium for mclaren is in order, perhaps even for renault but it starts to require several retirements for it to happen
7. Who will win the FIA pole position trophy? Hamilton no doubt given how strong mercedes still is and he’s also good in qualifying
8. Who will be the first driver to be replaced or substituted for a race? Hartley
9. And who will take their place? Don’t know much about red bull next junior drivers
10. Will Lewis Hamilton break Raikkonen’s record points-scoring streak? Think so, even if he’s due a mechanical retirement this year
11. Who will win the Monaco Grand Prix? Hard to say, but ferrari went the way of mercedes in car design, so red bull might be favourite, could be any of the 2 if so, given verstappen is better but ricciardo is good at monaco
12. Will Valtteri Bottas get a Mercedes race seat for 2019? If he’s not worse than 2017, yes
13. Whose power units will Red Bull use in 2019? I think honda is just reliable, not fast (we’ll see ofc), in which case they will continue with renault
14. How much quicker or slower will the 2018 cars be on average over a lap (in seconds)? 1,5 sec faster
15. What will be the biggest political story of the year? No idea!
16. Which power unit manufacturer will use the most engines (ICE), and how many? Good question, I was gonna say honda but they were reliable in testing, renault says they improved their reliability, gonna say renault cause they’re gonna be pushing performance more, 5!
17. At which race will the drivers’ title be decided? Again I’m hoping on a contested championship, so gonna say penultimate race
18. Who will finish last in the constructors’ championship? Sauber, don’t think they improved compared to other backmarkers
I voted hamilton and mercedes for championships, but obviously hope it will be someone else, hamilton is one of the drivers I prefer on the grid atm, but mercedes dominated too much lately, gonna hope on verstappen and red bull; even vettel winning another title wouldn’t be that interesting, while ferrari winning constructors wouldn’t be bad considering they’re chasing it since a while, but there’s no chance with raikkonen in the team.

Majority fans bashing Williams’s choice of Sergey Sirotkin. But when they ask which will score the most points: “Sergey Sirotkin, Charles Leclerc, Pierre Gasly or Brendon Hartley?”, Sirotkin was prefered choice even when Williams test result was worse than Toro Rosso and Sauber.
I had to admit even when I had big hope for Hartley, I too had more confidence that Sirotkin would gain the most points between them. That was a great question.
BTW, on “What will be the biggest political story of the year?” First half-year: Liberty keeps avoiding on telling the teams what the definitive 2020 regulation is. Second half-year: Liberty concedes to Horner which leads Honda to stay and both Mercedes & Ferrari quits.

2. no higher than 4th, barring a miracle
3. Pierre Gasly, but it could be close
4. Sebastian Vettel
5. No
6. Hopefully at least one (maybe Renault or a surprise like we saw in Baku last year)
7. Lewis Hamilton
8. Not sure – maybe a Williams driver (Sirotkin more likely at this stage), but it’s hard to tell (as proved by Alonso and Wehrlein’s injuries over the last three years)
9. Kubica if my previous answer is correct
10. Yes, unless something goes wrong in the early flyaway races
11. Daniel Ricciardo
12. Yes, unless Ocon impresses the bosses sufficiently and Hamilton stays on for 2019
13. Honda, unless they’re too slow / unreliable in the first half of 2018
14. Hard to tell based on testing, but maybe start a few tenths slower and get quicker (relatively) as the year progresses
15. Excluding anything linked to safety (e.g. the halo) or Russia, I’m not sure
16. I think Renault will use the most in total (average 4-5 per car), but Honda might use 5-6 per car
17. Hopefully not until Brazil
18. If it’s not Sauber, I’d say Williams with the current driver lineup
19. Mercedes
20. Lewis Hamilton

I have two favourite stats:
A) According to many, Marcus Ericsson is one of the most likely candidates to finish last in the constructors’ [sic!] championship
B) The same Marcus Ericsson is also in 5th place of the poll “Who will win the drivers’ championship?”
Talk about polarisation.

I was checking the questions for 2017 and realized that I don’t know the answers for some of them:
4. Which driver will out-qualify his team mate most often? Think it was Alonso, but not sure.
10. Which driver will collect the most penalty points for driving infringements?
12. Who will crash out of the most races?
16. What will be the biggest political story of the year? Not sure. Maybe McLaren and TR changing engines?
17. What will be the most entertaining race of the year? Some say Baku. This one is a case of personal opinion, I guess.
Who knows the answers for these?
F1 frog (@f1frog)

Nico Hulkenberg outqualified his teammate the most and I think Daniil Kvyat had the most penalty points for driving infringements

1. How many races will Mercedes win this year?
I think (or more likely hope) that it will be close at the front, so the wins could get shared out or we could also get a scenario whereby one team, such as Mercedes, is just ahead of the rest so while not having as big pace advantage as in recent years, they could still take the majority of wins.
My prediction will be 10 wins for Mercedes.
2. What will Fernando Alonso’s highest F1 race finish be?
I think he will have to rely on faster cars retiring and having problems but I think he can get a podium, say third.
3. Who will score the most points: Sergey Sirotkin, Charles Leclerc, Pierre Gasly or Brendon Hartley?
Long term I would say that Leclerc has the best chance of succeeding in F1 but he probably has the worst car this year out of that list of drivers.
I will say Sirotkin, but if Honda have a better and more reliable year then Gasly.
4. Which driver will out-qualify his team mate most often?
In the team mate battles poll I was most confident of Vettel finishing ahead of his teammate in the championship, but qualifying is another matter, but I will stick with Vettel.
5. Will Kimi Raikkonen win a race?
No.
6. Which teams other than Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull will score a podium finish?
I think other teams will probably have to rely on problems for the big three to secure a podium, but I will say Renault and McLaren and then probably also a surprise podium for another team.
7. Who will win the FIA pole position trophy?
Hamilton.
8. Who will be the first driver to be replaced or substituted for a race?
I think the first driver replacement will be due to injury so I have no idea who it will be.
9. And who will take their place?
As I didn’t have an answer for would be replaced I don’t have an answer for who will take their place.
10. Will Lewis Hamilton break Raikkonen’s record points-scoring streak?
I don’t know how close he is to the record but I will say no.
11. Who will win the Monaco Grand Prix?
Ricciardo.
12. Will Valtteri Bottas get a Mercedes race seat for 2019?
Yes, I think he will have a decent season but be outperformed by Hamilton and Mercedes will decide to go stick with Bottas for stability and inner-team harmony.
13. Whose power units will Red Bull use in 2019?
Honda, if Renault have the opportunity I think they will end their deal with Red Bull, and the only option for Red Bull would be Honda. However I wouldn’t be surprised in Honda eventually come good and McLaren are left to rue their decision.
14. How much quicker or slower will the 2018 cars be on average over a lap (in seconds)?
1-2 seconds quicker, it will probably be mainly due to the tyres.
15. What will be the biggest political story of the year?
Liberty Media’s plans for the future of F1 and Ferrari threatening to quit if they don’t continue to receive preferential treatment.
16. Which power unit manufacturer will use the most engines (ICE), and how many?
On average per team I would say Honda but they only supply one team so if you had to count the total number across the pitlane I would say Renault.
17. At which race will the drivers’ title be decided?
I think (hope) it will be the last year of the season at Abu Dhabi.
18. Who will finish last in the constructors’ championship?
Sauber.
19. Who will win the constructors’ championship?
I think they still have the best car so I will say Mercedes, although it will be closer than in recent years.
20. Who will win the drivers’ championship?
As I think Mercedes still have the best car, I will say Hamilton, but all it could take could be a DNF or two to decide who ends up as champion.

Thought I’d get mine in before it’s too late:
1. How many races will Mercedes win this year?
8
2. What will Fernando Alonso’s highest F1 race finish be?
3rd. I’m guessing they’ll finally reach the podium towards the middle part of the season
3. Who will score the most points: Sergey Sirotkin, Charles Leclerc, Pierre Gasly or Brendon Hartley?
It really depends on how good Sauber and Honda are. I’m guessing Leclerc, but if Toro Rosso is good then Hartley could do it. Williams will struggle this year
4. Which driver will out-qualify his team mate most often?
Sirotkin
5. Will Kimi Raikkonen win a race?
It’s unlikely, but yes
6. Which teams other than Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull will score a podium finish?
Renault, McLaren, and Force India. None of them will win a race though
7. Who will win the FIA pole position trophy?
Hamilton, although it’s possible Bottas could spring a surprise
8. Who will be the first driver to be replaced or substituted for a race?
Since he rejoined McLaren, Alonso is yet to do a season without missing an early race. Given that he is also doing WEC, it’s possible he could get injured. However I doubt it will happen again so I’m going to randomly guess Stroll will have a crash and sit one out
9. And who will take their place?
Di Resta will be called back. I doubt Kubica will race
10. Will Lewis Hamilton break Raikkonen’s record points-scoring streak?
No
11. Who will win the Monaco Grand Prix?
Vettel
12. Will Valtteri Bottas get a Mercedes race seat for 2019?
Yes
13. Whose power units will Red Bull use in 2019?
Honda
14. How much quicker or slower will the 2018 cars be on average over a lap (in seconds)?
1.5 seconds
15. What will be the biggest political story of the year?
I’m not sure what counts as political, this is anyone’s guess. Perhaps an accident where they claimed the halo saved a life, or where the halo makes it worse. But I will guess the Russian Grand Prix; knowing how much Sky and the BBC have it in for Russia, they will have no end of things to say
16. Which power unit manufacturer will use the most engines (ICE), and how many?
I’m presuming this question refers to the most used in a single car. Honda. Despite their smooth running so far, I reckon they will still get through 7, but it will be close with Renault
17. At which race will the drivers’ title be decided?
Brazil
18. Who will finish last in the constructors’ championship?
Williams
I voted for Vettel to win the drivers, although out of hope as much as anything. I’m also eager to see if Bottas will be closer than people are expecting, he could be a dark horse. Mercedes to win the constructors, of course
